Mutable Instruments - Warps

Музыка

Put your feet up and grab a drink and join me for around 28 minutes of Warps from Mutable Instruments! It's a longer video than usual but I wanted to really dive into each mode and go through what's going on while also reverting back to the crossfader mode to show you the input signals and sequences used. There's also the internal oscillator, some through zero FM and a bit of a jam at the end with plenty of modulation. All the timings for the video sections are indexed below and will work as links so click them to go through and check out the bits you want ... AFTER watching the full thing of course! :)
As always hit like and subscribe for more videos every week and check the Patreon link below to see how you can support my channel.

    Great video Ben. Thanks. I thought I was done buying modules until I watched this! Question- can I take let's say a drum loop or any audio file from my phones headphone out into the input of Warps and Vocode it? Or would the signal be too low? Would my Linux mixer work like yours for mixing the wet dry balance?

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    8 жыл бұрын

    +sunil solanki too quiet I'd imagine, not tried it. But there's lots of input module options. If you split the input signal to one channel of the linux and the input of warps and then warps output into a second channel on linux you could use those to mix the dry and wet.

    Hey Mano, not sure was OSCs I was using at the time. But if I was changing octaves it could have been the AJH Synth MiniMod VCO with it's octave switching. Or Mutable Instruments Braids. If you're talking about the Vocoder bit I think that was the CSAW mode on Braids.

    Hey man, I'm just about to drop for my first system and Im thinking of grabbing this little beauty... Am I right in thinking this can be used as a standard VCA when its set to crossfade? I want it to be usable as part Stereo Filter/FM (cause thats something the normal Sherman can't do) part Synth, so far the units I've chosen for an 84 rack are as follows - Pittsburgh MIDI 3, Mutable Warps, Intellijel ADSR, Korgas, Octature, Polaris and Aud Int 2. Filter mad I know >:] Do you think this would be suitable or would I be better getting rid of one of the filters for a seperate VCA? Thanks in advance for any advice you can pass on! Dear Ben, thanks for the great tutorials once more. I am curious. Could you use the Warps as you would use a classic Roland SVC350? Like have an audio input(be it vocal or drums) in the 2 input of Warps. And then a Midi melody via doepfer 190-3 on the int. osc lvl? It seems difficult to me because you would then need to go from 190-3 gate out to ENV to Level of int. osc. but then you don't have the melody yet from the cv note out from the doepfer 190-3. I manage to add a vocal via a a-138 mixer & audio multiplier but nonetheless it doesnt really work eheh. Thanks for your help.

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hi, yeah you'd need to the gate output to go to an envelope then the sound into a VCA for the envelope to control. So that won't work here. You'd need a separate oscillator. What's the processing you're wanting to do between an oscillator and the input (vocal or drums)? I wonder if we can figure out a way to do it.

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    7 жыл бұрын

    It's not a VCA when you're mixing two signals together. Regarding normal vocoding have you seen that bit in this video? You can use a vocal into one channel and the internal oscillator to modulate the vocal. Or use the E350 if you want to use that.

  • @shufflephunk

    @shufflephunk

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes ofcourse I saw the whole video. Since I dont have a VCA into my modular system I've used an 190-3 gate to 2x buff mult to trig1&2 of peaks envelope to levels of the warps. then i use the E350 output z and xy in the 1&2 of warps so it becomes some sort of VCA. Maybe if I would then remove the level2 and the 2audio and replace that one with just a microphone the E350 would be the sound that would vocode my voice?

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    7 жыл бұрын

    ah ok I'm with you now. Yeah take out the the second audio input and use a vocal sample / microphone etc and take out the level control. You'll be vocoding nicely then. You can take the level control out of the first channel at first to hear what you're doing first and foremost then start messing with levels again.

  • @shufflephunk

    @shufflephunk

    Ok not really sure if I understand but what i did now is: Level 1: midi envelope for triggering the vco 1: E350 Level 2: nothing 2: audio sample from ableton But it doesnt really sound that good unfortunately :(
