In a way, it almost makes sense. A music producer is in a position to have a lot of songs coming his way from various artists and he has to assess what works and what doesn't. It tracks that they would be some of the best people to have a bigger vision of what music is lacking and where it could use more substance (if they care beyond simply making some bops...which has an importance in entertainment too). It's great to see more people in the mainstream making stuff that feeds the soul rather than the empty calories some put on wax.
