Re-edited version of the original . I shot this video at the Headcorn Battle of Britain Airshow in July 2015.
If you're a fan of aviation, then you'll love this video! It's a great way to get a glimpse of one of the greatest aircrafts in history - the Avro Vulcan XH558. This aircraft is well known for its howling noise, and this clip is a great way to experience it for yourself. If you're curious about how vintage aircraft sound, then this is the video for you!
Avro Vulcan XH558 (military serial XH558, civil aircraft registration G-VLCN) The Spirit Of Great Britain was the last remaining airworthy example of the 134 Avro Vulcan jet powered delta winged strategic nuclear bomber aircraft operated by the Royal Air Force during the Cold War. It was the last Vulcan in military service, and the last to fly at all after 1986.
And that incredible Vulcan Howl !!!

Along with the English Electric Lightning, the Vulcan will probably be our best modern military aircraft of all time.

RAF Vulcans use to visit the Abbotsford airshow from the late 1960's till the early 1980's. I remember them well, the howl of the engines and at full bore it sounded like the engines were ripping the air apart. Great Times.😎👍

1st time I saw the Vulcan was at Duxford, every filling in my mouth rattled as she passed. So sad it no longer takes to the air.

I worked in Latin America in the 1980s and was in Rio de Janeiro in 1982 and saw the one that was there due to mechanical issues after bombing Argentine forces during the Falkland Islands war. The Vulkans left Ascension Island and flew to the Falkland Islands on bombing missions. Tankers met the planes going down and coming back to refuel them. The one I saw in Rio had a problem trying to refuel on the return trip and damaged the refueling probe and had to declare an emergency to land at Rio. The Brazilians wouldn't allow the plane to leave as Argentina was pressuring all Latin American countries to back their war over the Falklands so the plane was stuck there until the US pressured Brazil to release the plane and let it return to Ascension Island. After the refueling probe and other repairs, the plane left Brazil.

As a child we lived under the flightpath of the Vulcan's ariving and leaving Finnanly arodrome when they were leaving you could hear the tiles rattle on our roof if you were upstairs, if you were in the garden they cast a shadow that seemed to take along time to pass over. aAs a kid it was magic.

Built to vaporise Russian cities from ten miles up, Avros ‘accidentally’ designed the best low level display aircraft EVER. When kept at Bruntingthorpe, before restore to flight, I was allowed into the captains seat after a high speed taxi run, the plane still ‘hot and ticking’. HEAVEN.

XH558 only weighed around 50 tons. The maximum all up weight of a fully laden military Vulcan was around 111 tons. It wouldn't be as maneuverable.

Vulcans (Mock) nuclear bombed USA a couple of times. US air defence had to be upgraded after first "bombing" and even more so after second. Used to watch these elegant planes flying over East Lothian in my early career. They turned so gracefully.

There are some aircraft that make me despise our governments regardless of party. Given how many billions are wasted each year on absolute shit, would it have been so difficult to have kept maybe 6 Lancasters and 6 Vulcans in flying condition so that we always had them in future...XH558 has now been grounded for years and we have only 2 Lancasters in flying condition, one in Canada and one here in Britain. The government should buy Just Jane and bring her into airworthy condition at least.
