    @@we-stand-with-israel Yes it is true, what he said is a fact. He is just explaining something I didn't get into in the video, because like I said in the video, I wasn't giving a history lesson. The point of the video I made about the numbers was simply to explain to people who didn't even know they look different, what they look like and sound like. Explaining the history wasn't really necessary for the video and the information I wanted to relay. But it's a good comment giving information for people that are curious about the history.

    @@sinbadsinbad3332 Yeah I see that, no hate from me. I initially thought you were informing me of the history, which I found a little ironic because I mentioned in the video there is history behind it but I wasn't going to be explaining that, and of course I researched the history of the numbers when I first arrived to Egypt and realized they were different myself. But after leaving my first comment I realized this was probably just a general comment giving info to all, which is good 👍I get a fair amount of comments on my videos from people that obviously haven't watched my videos yet like to criticize, so I think my response might have been a bit short and tart 😬 Both numbers can be called Arabic numbers (Eastern and Western), but to make it less confusing I suppose it is easier to just call the Eastern Arabic numerals "Indian numerals", even if they aren't quite the same as the ones used in India today. Although perhaps someone who doesn't know the history or much about these countries would then think they use these numbers in India right now 😅 Anyway, thanks for your comment 🙏

    Yeah I know, I'm learning Arabic and have a tutor and all that jazz. But when you say the numbers, the far right one comes first, which is so confusing because if I say 54 in English, the fifty part is said first, but in Arabic, the four part is said first, which my brain then wants to think 45 instead of 54 😅 Thanks for watching Anthony! 🙏

    I left Egypt ten years ago, live in Florida now, and wow did things change. I still remember the archaic bills that probably aren't even in circulation anymore, like the 25 piasters bill and its coin variant that had a hole in it, before the current one you showed. There was also a 50 piaster bill and I remember kids would jokingly call it a Dollar because it was green. Thanks for covering this, I didn't know there were new ten and twenty pound notes. Are the invisible parts as flimsy as they look? Or do you think they are well made?

    Mmm, finding an apartment here is a pain in the ass. I had my then friend-now Egyptian boyfriend- help me find an apartment. You are really going to want someone who is Egyptian with you that can speak the language or negotiate when looking at apartments. I have heard from several foreigners that were searching for apartments (with no help from Egyptian friends) that found a place they were interested in, and then would be told a different price than what was advertised when they were viewing it (because they are foreigners-some Egyptians are trying to take advantage of that). They would go out, meet the landlord or whoever was renting it, look at it, then the guy would tell them some obscenely overpriced and much higher than advertised price for the apartment. There are sites like Olx where you can look for an apt. In the end I ended up paying some real estate agents to find me an apartment, and that was even with my bf's help, because it was just such a pain the ass to find a decent place, even for him. Lots of places are unfurnished (and I mean nothing, not even a washing machine or stove or maybe not even a water heater). I think for what you get, the prices can be pretty high in Cairo compared to some other places in the world. As an example, look at Airbnb's in Thailand and how much they cost to rent for a month. Then look at Cairo's. The cost is way more for much less quality in Egypt. In Thailand you will have clean, beautiful modern facilities, probably with a pool, for a fairly decent price. In Egypt you may get for the same price as Thailand's (or more) a dark looking dungeon with furniture from the 70's that looked like they were trying to imitate a palace from 15th century France 😅

    @@Gventures yeah i figured it might be like that. I’m fortunate to have good Spanish so finding places in Ecuador hasn’t been difficult/treacherous as I’ve seen it be for folks who come here and don’t speak Spanish. I appreciate the info- idk when I’ll manage to get to that side of the world but it’s good to know what to look out for. I see a lot of parallels in terms of bureaucracy/general chaos between Egypt and Ecuador tho it does seem a bit more intense there (which obvs it would be anyway given the language barrier.) I’m trying to become a polyglot and would love to come for a few months at some point and do a language intensive (I know some schools offer housing but at this point in life I’m not cut out to do the dorm thing lol I need my personal space)

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    6 ай бұрын

    @@jerrisgibbs161 Haha, yeah lots of countries have varying degrees of chaos, I would definitely say Egypt's is up there, almost comparable to India. I've never been to Ecuador, but I have been to Peru, and my father is from Argentina. I gotta say, it's nothing like that here. Obviously, it's a completely different culture than SA so that's to be expected, and with 25 million people in Cairo (6th largest city in the world) it's a completely different atmosphere due to sheer numbers alone. Another thing I forgot to mention is that most rental contracts are a minimum of a year. So if you are planning to stay for 6 months or less, I would either try to find a room to rent with other roommates, or rent an Airbnb by yourself for a few months. It may not be the cheapest or the nicest, but depending on quality and location, it can be affordable.

  • @Gventures

    No, I've NEVER encountered that before. Until just recently. Now, to extend your visa, you have to go to the bank, exchange USD to EGP, and bring the receipt from the bank to show them at the immigration office that you just did that. Because of the foreign currency shortage. But that is a recent development. What kinds of places were demanding USD from you in perfect condition? That's strange. I mean, I've been asked for USD before, but I just tell them in Arabic that I don't have it and that I live here. But I do know they are picky about the condition of the USD here (no tiny tears, marks, or ink), just like at border crossings in Asia, that mattered then too.
