-- read with patience -- One of the reason i choose iiser pune over mbbs was my interest for physics. Now that i have been through 1 semester i am quite dissapointed. The physics that i studied here is not at all like that of jee or neet, like i used to enjoy solving hard problems but here the entire focus is there on theoritical aspect. In Sem 2 we are having 2 math courses running simultaneously(Calculus 2 n Linear algebra). My friend from ISI kolkata after seeing this cirriculum says that how the hell are you going to focus on other subjects when you have these 2 'heavy' math courses. I had a myth that one has to study lesser here than in mbbs which got completely shattered. I had to spend sleepless nights before exams and still managed to get only 8.6 sgpa. It is not that flowery as it is shown from outside that you just complete your 4 years and then fly abroad for a phD. Only after coming to iiser did i get to see some harsh realities. If you are not great in studies ,then its actually hard to survive with dignity in iiser.

I Agree , the maths here is completely different from what we studied in our JEE , like we always solved problems we were given problems and we used to try and find the answers by solving , What is happening here is the maths is prove based like you need to write paragraphs in maths its completely different and mind boggling . Anyways , your CGPA is really good , in my department as of now only 3 people have a a CGPA of above 8 .

As a final year student, I can't agree more!

iiser mohali student here. i think if you are interested in pure science and want to pursue it as a career, and you are decently hardworking, then you can fairly comfortably survive in iiser. and getting internships is not easy but not too hard either. basically do not come if you are not interested in pure science and want placement right after graduation .and if you want to become a researcher then to build a good career in research you will ofc have to work hard.

As a person who has been interested in astronomy and astrophysics as a young child and is giving the IAT this year, I hope I can ace the exam and get into IISER so I can follow my dreams. Also, huge respect to y'all fellow scientists for bucking the trend and focusing on research

Its very true that if you are not getting you favourite branch in iit nit then take that branch in state government college or in other private college. Donot run for iiser iit nit tag just run for your favourite branch please..

To agar mai 11th me pcm hi bass padhu or bio ekdam upar upar se padu(jitna iat ke syllabus me hai) to kya waha jake mereko koi problem hoga.....?! Ya mujhe 11th or 12th me bio ka pura syllabus cover karna padega? Second thing ki waha coding kaha use hota hai.... I mean what is the use of coding in research? I am in class 10th now... When the student will think for himself/herself? This curriculum seems to decrease the creativity of students. Why does a non-bio student care about bio? This education system is so ineffective, no doubt why india is lagging so behind in natural science and math research.

I think it’s a great idea, gives you perspective before you enter masters. It’s very likely you might find a certain area of combined subjects such as biophysics interesting, students like me early on have difficulty choosing just one specific area so it’s like a good thing, I believe.

Respected Di,, Can i become Teacher in KVS (Kendriya vidyalaya) after Ms from IISER or Msc from IIT as these are not universities ,these are institute so, will i be eligible because, as per eligibility criteria one has to do Masters from a recognized university, ?? And iit or IISER do not come under UGC and in official eligibility circular there is no mention of research institutes , same case with UP Tet only UGC recognize universities mention is there ?? Please guide
