Although this video was created 4 years ago, I'm sure all your tips are still valid for my presentation for next year trip to Iceland. Thanks for sharing.

25:12 tripods once cleaned don't feel new this is because the grease that is applied to the thread has to be wiped off and cleaned. You can make it the same as new or even better by applying some dielectric grease. I use permatex brand dielectric grease.. works like a charm. There are many other brands and grades of grease as well such as loctite. A word of caution don't apply anywhere else other than threads as these are very high viscosity and can spoil instead of fixing. Worth getting a small tube. I even dismantled and cleaned the original grease from my ball head and applied permatex.. it made the ball head controls way more smoother and just feels more premium a joy to keep fiddling with the ball head.. ))

Great video, Todd. We’re heading to Iceland in a few weeks and, while I’ve thought of a lot of these items, it’s great to get perspective from someone who’s “been there and done that”.

Awesome! I made this video an eternity ago, so I'm glad it still proved useful! Can't remember if I covered it in this video, but something to keep an eye on (always) is the weather and road conditions. In winter it can be very windy, so check Iceland road safety sites if needed. When Route 1 is shut down, you can't get anywhere.

The far simpler solution to keep your legs relatively clean, whether it's sand, mud, or snow - get the extensions that are designed for your tripod legs. Not only do you get a few more inches of height, but you also help protect the joints of your tripod.

Thank you for this helpful video.. After months of miserable lockdowns, no new opportunities to photograph a new landscape, I booked a flight to Iceland in July. I was thinking if a second body would be overkill. This video cleared up that question. Keep up the good content! Just found your channel a couple of days ago.

I am going to Iceland in October and this is by far the most helpful video I have found in regards to prepping camera gear! Thank you! Do you have any suggestions on tri-pods that won't break the bank but still withstand the wind and rain?

  • @dominey

Thanks! That’s a tough question to answer because you generally get what you pay for. I think Benro makes some nice, sturdy tripods for the money. I used their Mach 3 there and it was fine!

I have the flexible lens hood. I’ve only used it to shoot through glass. I think it would be a bit unwieldy to use in other circumstances.
