In this video, we get our hands on some of the 2024 line from Merlin. Based in the heart of what was once the epicenter of the UK automotive industry, Merlin has produced timeless garments since 2012, with each release getting better and safer.
We kick things off with two jackets that pay homage to those jukebox racers of times past: the Merlin Alton II and Torsten. The Alton II jacket, made from 1.2-1.3mm soft and supple aniline leather, features D3O tri-vented shoulder and elbow armour, and a beautifully crafted Marton Mills interior liner to keep you warm.
The Torsten takes it a step up from the Alton II, being a AAA-rated garment-the highest standard for motorcycle wear. It's protective, yes, but it's the attention to detail in the overall design that really sets it apart. From the diamond-quilted shoulder panels to the TFL UV reflective treatment that reduces heat absorption, the Torsten combines safety with style.
We then move on to look at some summer-ready jackets: the Taos and Prospect. The Taos takes a completely different approach to style and protection compared to the leather jackets, with a main focus on breathability, visibility, and function. It features adjustment tabs at each point of the arm, offset elasticated pockets, and an angled rear map pocket for easy reach.
The Prospect offers a more familiar look with neutral colours often seen in classic jackets, but with the breathability of a mesh jacket. It's also the most affordable in the lineup featured in this video, making it a budget-friendly option that doesn't compromise on quality.
