😁YOU GUYS ASKED FOR IT- here is a list of some of my MUST HAVE furniture flipping tools and products, some NICE TO HAVE tools and products, and some things WORTH SAVING FOR.
These are just things that I use- every refinisher/flipper is going to have different preferences, and different availability in their area, but I'm hoping this will be a jumping off point for anyone interested in furniture that is just starting out. Obviously this isn't a list of every single item I use- but if you want to see more tools and products I use, you can check out my workroom tour videos- I actually open every single drawer and cupboard!
Grab a snack and a drink (and probably a pen and notepad) and hopefully you enjoy this video I made for you! ❤️

I noticed this video isn't getting as many views as your flipping videos. I hope you don't let that discourage you from posting content like this occasionally! Your subscribers appreciate you sharing your expertise

Yeah. These videos always perform horrifically in comparison, so I try to spread them out as much as possible. Some channels skip them all together but I know that there are a few folks that could really use this sort of info, so I do them on occasion. The main issue is that a lot of my subscribers don’t actually do furniture themselves, but like watching the process, so a video about products/tools, etc just won’t apply to them, which is totally ok! It was actually the reason I created my other channel, that caters more to folks who actually do or want to do furniture. This would have been perfect for that channel, but because it was a sponsored one, had to do it here instead. Thank you for commenting though; likes, comments and shares do help videos get seen more so I appreciate it! ❤️

Angie, I can't imagine the amount of time it must have taken you to organize and put together this incredibly helpful video! Then putting all the names and links of the tools you showed us.... just wow! You can't know how much this refinisher appreciates your knowledge and all the things you continue to teach me! Just wow and thanks!!
You are a phenomenal teacher, truly!!! I learn so much from your videos and this one, likewise, a wealth of information!

Awww.. thank you for this. It’s hard to make stuff like this not dry and boring so I’m glad at least a few folks have liked it so far. :-) These style videos always perform poorly but I like to do them every now and then because I really do get asked about this stuff a lot. So for the folks who want to know- it’s important. :-)
My mom once experienced a “refinishing” era and this reminds me of that time when she was revealing beautiful wood from battered pieces… such wonderful memories - thank you for helping me remember 🙏

It can be so overwhelming when starting out, especially when you see someone create something beautiful with products you don't have yet. It's a good reminder to start small, see what works for you, and don't expect perfection right out the gate! Thank you for taking the time to put together such a detailed, helpful video for us!

Thank you for this one! I am attempting a gentle clean and nourishing of my Grandpa's first attempt at marquetry. A small chest of drawers hand built in 1925. I have been watching keenly at the prepping stages and finishing of other videos, but this list was so helpful. I can source some of the products at my locL hardware in my small regional town! In Australia! By the way...in Australian English we say the l in s,a,l,ve. It's a British Commonwealth thing. Same in New Zealand! 😁🌻

Great info, Angie! I am a little bit handy, and have over the years accumulated a lot of tools. I surprise myself at times - "I really bought that?" as I look in some corner or forgotten box. Having and using are very different, so it's excellent having your videos as encouragement and reference. My late Dad was very handy, and as a chemist who specialized in paints and coatings he made a lot of wonderful and useful things when I was growing up, and left a storehouse of tools and memories. It all comes together 😅

This is such a helpful, informative video. Excellent content 💖 Just found the link for the lists of tools and basic products. I have so many of these tools, but they're scattered about in different project areas, and your concise list will help so much with organizing and filling in the gaps when I need to shop. You're a great teacher, and I've learned so much from you. Inspiring! Keep up the awesome work, you're a gem 💖

Awe, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you're finding my content helpful and that I'm inspiring you. Thank you so much for watching! ❤️❤️
Daddy had Weldwood glue powder. The stuff was amazing and I can't find it anywhere. I'm surprised you don't have pipe clamps. They fit on a pipe of any length and can be used to hold large pieces together or apart. I've used them more while working on my old house. I got a chuckle when I asked a Home Depot salesman where they were. He tried to send me to plumbing. I got him to tell me where regular clamps were. He followed me over. They were hidden at the bottom of the display and I taught him how wonderful they are. While I have restored furniture for my own use and am restoring my old home, I love watching and learning from you. Maybe one day the house will be done, the old shed will be repaired (hurricane) and I can start flipping pieces.

Angie, what a nicely organized and comprehensive listing with explanations. Perfect in time for gift giving. (A bank style gift card would be the perfect gift for the aspiring or growing woodworker. I truly appreciate your going through what you use and why! Ive been using Wooster brushes for years as I work for a Benjamin Moore Dealer and have access to their Wooster brush full line( plus I live about an hour away from Wooster, Ohio), so its easy for me to get brushes. Having recently purchased alot of the must haves that youve shown makes me feel better about justifying my motives to purchase. It'll be awhile before I can get a festool system, but I'm good with duct tape and my wet dry vac! Lol Thank you for sharing your list as there are things I didnt even think of that will now get my attention. Love your videos and how you share your experiences, both good and bad! My favorite mini ratchet/driver is made by VIM tools. High tooth count, quality ratchet mechansims, with a 1/4" end that fits 1/4" hex shaft driver bits, and a 5/16" end that holds a 1/4" socket adapter. I had one for 10 years or more, that was HD house branded, but found the one they sell now is not as good. Found the VIM tools one on Amazon. (I have no connection to the company, other than loving that one tool they make.)😂

I'd like to add something in Shop Safety Equipment- a metal trash can for rags or shop cloths that have been used with solvents or finishes. They can spontaneously combust, and my dad found this out by chance one night. Someone has left some finishing rags on a wooden bench, and he came upon it smoldering. Could have been a disaster. Shop rags go in a metal bin with lid!

@@mirandamom1346 Despite being next door to our American friends, Canadians for the most part tend to follow the UK pronunciation of words. So while in Canada the "l" in salve is pronounced, the "l" in salmon is not. Ain't English weird😁

Thank you so much for watching and your kind, reassuring words! They are truely appreciated.
One "must have" that doesn't get much thought is... a place to work. I don't have a garage, only a car port; but it is covered and I had an electrician install an outside power point so I can use things like sanders and saws in the covered part. I also have a very large shed in the back garden - but that's going to need repairs to a leaky tin roof and better (safer) electrical wiring. On very cold days, on very hot days, on windy days, on rainy days - having somewhere dedicated to work is essential; I've refinished furniture in my kitchen and lounge, and that's not really all that much fun.

A dedicated space makes all the difference in the world! It's no fun at all trying to piece out space to work and achieve correct ventilation etc. Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I actually use many of the same products you use. This is due to watching your videos and your exceptional explanations of the tools and products. I believe this also a byproduct of your learning experience with skillshare and other platforms. You probably subconsciously describe techniques in a way you have seen through the skillshare videos. I can definitely see the quality of your explanations getting better overtime. There are a few other channels that I watch and I would say that Mad City Modern is my second favorite, but I would caution people to not use his techniques for flipping, because his finishing style does not hold up overtime. Definitely use the finishing techniques used here if you want returning customers. I see a need to use toners, but I am still not confident with them. A tutorial video from you would be a great help. I haven’t been able to find any good videos regarding toners for the flipping use case. I have researched many of the techniques you use and I can honestly say that there isn’t much that you don’t do the right way. The only process you use that caused problems for me is using normal wood glue for veneer. I got a lot of bleed through. Switching to a proper veneer glue fixed that for me.

Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It’s very helpful for us souls hoping to have a go but not much clue what to gather now and what to put on the wish list. 😀
I pronounce salve like you do and I live in SE USA
Thanks, Angie. This was interesting. Now… When are you going to have a “Furniture Boot Camp” in Nova Scotia where we can pay you to show us how to do what you do in person? 😊

😊 I do not foresee that ever happening but thank you so much for the support!
Angie, your work is incredible. One tool I didn’t see is a very thin shiny pry bar you have that you use for removing some trims and details on furniture. I have looked everywhere and I can’t find a pry bar that small and thin. It would be so handy. Can you let me know where you got it? I would love to get one. Thanks and keep up the AMAZING work!

Great information. Have you tried Black Dog Salvage (Roanoke, Virginia) paint products? The matt finish coat & the black matt are my current favorites. I, too, like Fusion, but the BDS are also great to use & much better price point.

Have you tried Timbermate wood filler? I love it and I love Zep products! Happy New Year, I'm trying to get caught up on your videos, somehow I missed the last 3 notifications.
