Its certainly my combo. 8, 10 or 12 inch Duku chandung, folding saw, a morastyle knife and a multitool. I’d only carry an axe if I was going to stay in one place for a long time and had to do A LOT of heavy wood processing.

My go-to combo is often similar for remote fly-out river trips. Skrama 240 is highly useful, versatile, comfortable in hand, efficient, and effective real wilderness knife. Saw package I go with is the Katanaboy 500 & Bigboy2000. Both saws fit nicely in Katanaboy 500 carry bag.

Tref distractions are never bad distractions even in a good video 😁

Agree 100%: the Silky Bigboy and Skrama 240 are a dream team! For a bushcraft day trip or an overnighter, they work great. But should I have to spend some time away from civilization, I would bring a folding buck saw like the Agawa. A buck saw isn't quite as sharp/efficient as the Silky, but replacement blades are very lightweight and dirt cheap, so I could bring 3-5, with some diversity. Breaking a Silky saw blade when you are far from a replacement would be a disaster! Great video! I quite enjoy that it is 'all over the place' .. Treff-time, a basic croatian language introduction in combination with your pragmatic tool maintenance tips: what is not to like!

Thanks Aleyander! I agree with you on the folding buck saws but honestly, the BigBoys are really durable. I nuilt a whole cabin with just that and an auger and was still cutting after that (was already used heavily befor that).

1:10 Absolutely love this shot of Treff hopping. No nonsense tools make alot of sense. Me - For the silky, I would get out the grinder or milling machine & shave down the backbone or give it a slight taper. Then Blue it to keep it from rusting. I believe you could sharpen it many times after.

Since I meet Skrama 240, my other (great) knives are in the bench. Inclouding axes. Skrama, Morakniv (or a folding knife) and a good saw its more than you need to camp. And awesome tool.

@@frostys_bushcraft - I put my Scrama in front of the side pouch behind the compression straps with the tip down in the packs elastic pocket. I did the same with the Gomboy on the other side. Seems secure.

Love the dog! Lol! Great video. I have a new Skrama 200 I'm looking forward to getting more use out of as soon as we can get back into the bush. I also have a large silky. Actually I own the katana boy and it's a beast! Handpowered chain saw! One thing... My Old Man would have kicked my butt if he ever caught my hand over an upside down blade (like I think you did during the birch bark scrape part). One slip or surprised bump and your day is ruined... and possibly your hand is ruined too. Just putting that out there. I've seen the improbable happen way to often to tempt fate like that! Awesome video. I subbed.

Firstly, your channel keeps growing! Congratulations Vedran on your success!! I too really enjoy using the Skrama 240 knife, it is my favorite all-purpose lightweight chopper. I didn't care too much about the plastic sheath, so I replaced it with a kydex one. As for the Silky saws, I don't have a Big Boy, but I have their Gomboy and Pocketboy saws. Their new line of Outback saws work the same as their original, but I really like their subdued finish. Great tip on sharpening them too! Lastly, how do you like that front-loading pack?

Thanks man! Honestly, I tried the Gomboy and was not really happy - cuts great but you really need to be carefull with it. Not a huge deal when you're fresh but when tired or in a hurry you kinda force things and that's where it fails for me. The pack in the video? It's HelikonTex Groundhog if I'm not mistaken. Really light and small (think it's 10ish liters) with some cool features like hidden mesh water pockets and hidden elastic panel so you can basically double the volume. Just wish it came in Cordura or a bit tougher material.

Skrama na popisu definitivno. Ako je imalo kao Jaakaripuukko 140 i bolja, onda nema previše razmišljanja :)

Ne znam bas da je malo, na prvu ima nekoliko odlicnih YT baushcaft kanala iz HR a nekada dok su forumi bili aktivni nalazilo nas se podosta na druzenjima. Sada vise nemam drustvene mreze pa ne pratim. Hvala!

The Skrama is a great choice. I like the 200 after using each for a while, but either the 240 or the 200 is going to be a great choice. Silky saws are a clear choice, as well. However, the folding Silky saws are not as good a choice as the fixed handle saws. The Sugoi, the Zubat, or the Sugowaza are all better choices for outdoors saws than any of Silky's folding saws. Your hand is at a much better angle, which causes less strain and is more comfortable. They're marginally longer in terms of packed size, but I believe the extra length is worth the extra quality you get from the better ergonomics.

Your video quality and composition are very good. Are you a photographer?

Great review but you really need to try the blueberry mango pumpkin cinnamon twist with a dash of ginger and honey cloves. It really neutralizes the bitterness in the coffee. 🤮

I have, and love, the bigboy. Been pairing it with a Kukri (condor heavy duty) but thinking about a skrama 200 for a little more comfort carrying on the waist. Skrama 240 looks great but I’m thinking the 200 can do most of the same with a bit less size and weight.

Biggest difference between the two for me is not the blade but the handle. 240 has grip_and_half handle and that's probably my favourite detail on it.

Thanks for the vid, and no problem with the rocus shifting, adds levity. Wish you went into more detail why the length of each (240 vs the 300 Skrama, big boy vs gomboy) My temptation is always to get small for carrying, but maybe there's a length below which you think it's impractical (I hava a Pocketboy 170mm, trying to choose a Jakaaripukko and/or a Skrama)

Thanks! There's no Skrama 300, only 200 and 240. The reason for me using 240 vs 200 is simple - grip_and_half handle on 240 is excellent. As for the Silky... not all Silky saws are great. Reason I don't like the Gomboy is the saw blades are really thin and bend a lot when using it without perfect technique. And when it's cold or raining or I'm tired perfect technique is not my first priority. BigBoy also had that problem in 13 tpi blades but 6.5-10 tpi blades are robust enough.

Good review. I think there is not much you can't do with those two tools. I have the Skrama, but a smaller saw. That is enough for what i do. Along with a small swiss army knife, i don't bring any other tools with me since.

Hey Raul! Thanks, glad you like it. Honestly, you can just use the camera on your phone untill you learn more about filming and editing, that's the easiest way. Up untill 5 months ago all my videos were made 100% on a mobile phone, editing end everything. Older ones show it, colors are awful but newer ones were fine. Rught now I use a small mirrorless camera from Sony - ZV-E10. Small and lightweight with a great sensor, coupled with a good lens it's all I need. Actually working on making a "behind the scenes" video and ahowing all my filming gear.

I replaced the ax with a small machete over 25 years ago. And the Skrama is a small machete. How easy was it to take the handle off and epoxy it back on?

I've put the blade in a vise and pulled hard on the handle. Not as easy as one would expect but doable. Next time (another Skrama) I used a small syringe with soapy water (between the blade and handle) and it was way easier.

Great video! What do you do about “protection” in the woods? I know you mentioned carrying an XD, but is there anything else you recommend carrying? Also, what do you do about poison ivy? Do you just deal with it, or prevent getting it somehow? Thanks!

Poison Ivy is really rare in my parts so I don't really think about it to be honest. Never had a problem with it. I carry a Hellcat when I'm allowed to, but thinking about switching it to something else just for fun.

The Bigboy will break close to the attachment point after a lot of use, especially if you are careless on the push stroke and bend the blade. I always carry a spare blade.

Honestly this is the first time I heard about that problem. I used this one a lot, you can check my videos where I built a whole cabin with just a silky and an auger... and that saw was already used and somewhat damaged. But I appreciate the info, I'll throw in a spare blade just in case.

That plain sucks, Skrama is a great tool. Uhh, I dunno... I'm not really into conventional bushcraft. I live in a small town and we always have a bunch of preserves we make ourselves, we make saussages and bacon for the whole year, we buy most meat and eggs locally from people with livestock so... don't really feel I need to prep :)

Pa da i ne. Mirai me su kutevi ostrenja zuba no silky sve pile radi "non set" tj da su zubi u sirini sa ledima pile a ne savijeni prema van tako da ostrenje ne utjece na to. Moja zaglavljuje ali zato sto sam previse skinuo na zubima a premalo na ledima, no i dalje se moze koristiti.

Merci pour la vidéo. Je ne crois pas que c'est le meilleur combo. Après expérience, avec un gros couteau surtout ce Skrama, on peut se passer de hachette bien sûr mais aussi de scie. Le Skrama joue comme une hachette et peut tout séparer comme la scie (shopping ou bâtonnage transversal avec massue). Le meilleur combo avec le Skrama est un petit couteau scandinave : l'ensemble plus léger et plus polyvalent. In English : Thanks for the video. I don’t think it’s the best combo. After experience, with a large knife especially this Skrama, we can do without hatchet of course but also saw. The Skrama plays like a hatchet and can separate everything like the saw (shopping or crossbar with club). The best combo with the Skrama is a small Scandinavian knife: the lighter and more versatile set.

No. Silky saws broke on me where Laplanders took the hit and just kept going. The rivots of silky saws losened up on me and made my blade swing open on it's own when sawing for less than 3 minutes. Fatwood dust clocked up my silkys so bad in short time that they turned useless where laplanders just kept going. A silky saw is a delicate instrument. It is not a survival tool for momens when you are cold, angry, scared, numb, malnutritioned, thirsty. Forget about it. Bahco Laplander 100%. Skrama 240 is indeed elite. Maybe head to head with an Ontario SP53. So: yes on the blade, hell no on the saw.

What Silky did you use? BigBoy with 6.5 teeth has been nothing but awesome for me, built a whole log cabin with just a Silky and an auger, used it on soft and hard wood, used it in freaking cold temps on frozen wood and it just keeps going. I've put threadlocker on the pivot as soon as I got it but I do that on all screws on all tools I have. I have both 6.5, 7 and 10 tooth versions. On the other hand, GomBoy was useless to me, thin blade kept binding and bending and eventually broke on me. I have two Laplanders and since I got the BigBoy I only used them for hunting, cutting pelvis and ribcage. Now I don't even use them for that 'cause I got a PocketBoy and that thing goes trough bone like butter.

@@frostys_bushcraft - Several. Pocket Boy 130, Pocket Boy 170, Supper Accel, F180,.. The accel messed up the rivot and the Pocket Boy 170 broke on me.
