It probably has chouriço though ( since it's a part of the recipe...). Unless it says it is vegetarian and they changed the original...

That's what I came here to say!! How dare you say Caldo Verde has chicken stock?! Also, Caldo Verde without chouriço is just a normal, bland soup - if you're vegan or vegetarian just pick something else!

Knorr/Maggi. A lot of restaurants love it and they put on everything, even soup. It might have chicken broth and it might have chouriço on the pot. Even if people order without chouriço, doesn't mean is chouriço free. Some restaurants do that, some restaurants don't do that. I have seen it.

@@iamabitterperson maybe they do to other soups just to give it flavor, but on caldo verde?! That’s just wrong, and it wouldn’t even taste right. Caldo verde is supposed to be a simple soup and that’s the beauty of it.

Portuguese soup, does not have chicken stock as a base unless it chicken soup(canja). Water and Ollive oil is the bases of our soup. Check-in authentic portuguese recipes for this.

Esactamente , isto è completamente errado. Como em muitas gastronomias nós usamos muitas vezes caldo de carne ou galinha, ou vegetais. Principalmente uma sopa entulho, da pedra etc fortes são muito melhores com um bom caldo ao invés de água. Se não se usam é preguiça, mas o dadinho usam todos. Uma especie de vergonha e mistério sempre a volta o cubo mágico.

I' portuguese myself and I don't use stock cubes, I must live in the dark ages apparently, like most of the Portuguese population since few people actually use stock cubes. But What do I know, I'm not the one with a portuguese wife, so I must not know much about Portugal.

The wine "chouriço" is really made with wine. And dis you know that indian "vindaloo" is an adaptation of a Portuguese dish, "carne (meat, once again) em vinha de alhos", that is, marinated in red wine and garlic, and a few other condiments and herbs?

Well done! But you missed Pernil (Pur-neel) Sandwich in casa Guedes, Praça dos Poveiros. Also, in the same place, Queijo (Kay-ju) da Serra Sandwich. Best bifana is in front of Campanhã train station in a place called Astro. If you are short on money you can ask for just a sauce sandwich. In Porto you must also try Filetes de Polvo (octopus) in a restaurant called Aleixo with the octopus rice, also near Campanhã and, last, but not the least: tripes... Ando go to Mercearia das Flores in rua das Flores to take a look (and taste) at Portugal's best produces. Enjoy

to be honest i don't recomend Casa Guedes anymore, they've got a new ownership and the pernil they serve is dry. Is not the same anymore :'c

Lets agree to disagree . It all depends on the tastes . Everyone has diferent tastes . I personally ate both of the Astro and Congo Bifanas , and for me , Congo´s until now has the best Bifana of Porto .

@@FilipePT25 João, you are right. Last time I went to Casa Guedes it was not the same. I assumed it was an accident. Filipe, you are probably right also, but I saw in Astro a unique "sande de molho". A sandwich with only sauce. I don't know if Congo do the same. But, next time in Porto I will go there, sure.

@@FilipePT25 - I've eaten "Pregos" in lots of places around Portugal and I've also never seen them with cheese and ham. However, I've never eaten them in Porto. Must be a local thing.

@@catarinafreitas8822 a gastronomia portuguesa muda muito. Em Lisboa podes pedir um prego e servirem-te apenas o bife no prato. Na madeira se pedes um prego vem automaticamente em bolo do caco. Como estive uma vez no Porto em toda a minha vida não sabia que era assim 😅

Vegetarians should try Peixinhos da horta; Grilled Mushroomns; Migas j(ust bread and veggies but it's really good!) Arroz de grelos (rice with cabbage sprouts )( you'll Love it), Turnip soup in Winter; cucumber and tomato salad; Roast peppers (delicious); .... Caldo Verde soup ONLY TAKES VEGETABLES! No chicken Broth. The taste is from the cabbage which is a special cabbage just for that soup

I absolutely loved the food in Portugal! Seafood was amazing…

It's a pity that you aren't seafood fans - one of the best traditional places I could recommend is Casa do Pescador, in Afurada, Vila Nova de Gaia. Hearty, home cooking and as traditional as it gets. The barnacles, the octopus, the seafood rice, and the fresh fish dishes are just amazing - all of them

I've been there and it's horrible! They charge you things you didn't order and the staff is unfriendly. Also for this price the food is not more than okay.

@@r_mclovin God doesn't exist in any form, the earth takes the most stable shape in the universe (spherical), and you did make that up. I've been a customer of Casa do Pescador for years, and I was never overcharged. The staff is friendly and helpful, which contradicts your said experience at every turn. either you're confused and you're talking about another restaurant, or you're trying to just troll.

Loved the look of the pork sandwich and the hot dog, makes me feel hungry watching these videos !!

Very cool video! Just to mention that yes porto is next to the coast and we have lot of fish dishes because of that however the cod does come dried out from norway!

It's not chicken stock, the taste of the soup Caldo Verde comes from the fact that the chouriço is boilled with the potatos.

no no no the sausage is put in the soup after the soup is already made, its like for decoration

@@1piper2 Indeed, but in a previous step it's first boiled in the soup water and that's what gives it the meat taste. Otherwise it would just tast like potato soup. I'm not saying it's the traditional way to do, I'm saying some places do it that way.

I'm definitely a meat eater but I absolutely love mushrooms and garlic and I've never had mushrooms in white wine sauce so that one intrigued me the most.

The Pataniscas de Bacalhau (codfish patties) with tomato rice, a Punheta de Bacalhau, Stone Soup, Alheiras there is veggies alheiras too, and Porto has free fish too.

Nowadays you can always find meat or vegetarian options in most restaurants in Porto, although veggie is not typical local food.

Watching this 2 years after you made it. i love Porto and you guys. (now 3) what i love is you two still laugh with each other. hope its real. I bet it iis.
