Mussel survey MAYO RIVER JUN 2024

Biologist form the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission and volunteers from the Dan River Basin Association conduct a mussel survey on the Mayo River just downstream of the Virginia / North Carolina state line. Over 200 Eliptio complanata were counted, a handful of Villosa constricta and at least one James Spinymussel. Also sited was a single Roanoke Logperch, one of several that were released earlier in the year downstream on the Mayo and upstream of the Avalon dams. No RLP's had been recorded in this section of river in over 100 years. #freshwatermussels, #mayoriver, #mayoriverstatepar, #danriverbasinassociation
