Muslims and the Western 'culture war' | Yasir Qadhi | The Big Picture EP9 |
How do Muslims navigate the so-called ‘culture war’?
In many Western countries a battle has waged between progressives and conservatives jostling in the political sphere and online. Many young Muslims have found themselves embroiled in these same conversations on gender, sexuality and tradition, creating a schism that threatens to divide their communities.
In this episode of The Big Picture, we speak with American theologian and public speaker Dr. Yasir Qadhi about the role of Musim scholars in the debate and Islam’s answer to the question of modernity.

Christian here but found this conversation very interesting
"Authentic as possible but grounded in reality". Gold
Brilliant ma sha Allah. Always spot on and effective. This is the exact interpretation of Allah describing Muslims as a middle or moderate community
Kudos to the interviewer who allowed the speaker to finish his point and not interrupt.
As someone who struggles with this, I'm really thankful that he's talking about it. When I searched for answers I only came across Muslims on the internet who said that Allah does not make you like that and that you will go to hell even if you never committed the sin, I started to doubt Islam. I didn't want that myself so how can I go to hell for feelings and thoughts that I don't want. But hmdl because of people like him i have just become stronger in my faith and i remain celibate for the love of allah and i am really happy.
What a great discussion, so blessed to have scholars like Sh. Yasir Qadhi.

Yasir qadih is misguided
My observation, as an American muslimah revert and living the Islamic way of life for past 30 yrs. alhumdulilah, was when I went to my husband's home country yes I saw the hierarchy however it was just that , you knew your place and lacked a "sense of self" but not only this , also I noticed the people took the adhan 5 times a day for granted , mosque not full as they are here in the west , in other words the youth weren't exactly being educated there in the Muslim majority country either. The absence of our Scholars has done serious damage. I am speaking of the pre-corona Era, before censorship kicked in heavily...those Scholars!! There has been a serious disconnect between the two . So , the youth went to what was available akhi, the Internet, the Google Scholar. In order to deal with that we have to first acknowledge that it even occurred

Please have a discussion with ins and outs of the holy book you adhere with Christian Prince. Islamic scholers do not dare to mention those dark aspects of the book due to the fact they will be in life threat from a majority sect of Muslims. Very deep discussion. MashaAllah. Please keep having this types of discussion.
Reputation of the community: Every Muslim family should strive to be be excellent neighbors with the most beautiful garden in the neighborhood. Remember Martin Ling’s garden and how it became a source of silent dawah! Inculcate Excellent ethics among Muslims in work place. Hardworking and honest. This will enshrine Muslims in whatever place they live in. Hiking, running, sports: excellence in these will connect Muslims and non Muslim in a non threatening environment . Don’t ignore chess, scrabble, table games, halal ways to connect with non Muslims in a non threatening environment . Gather young Muslim kids at mosques Friday and Saturday nites to keep them safe from the sexual and cultural environment that may corrupt them. Food, table games, basket ball , arts and crafts, allow some fun times at these gatherings. If you want to go the Jewish route, their community centers have movie theaters, art classes , martial arts.

Right. It's important for non-muslims to remember that Islam REQUIRES Muslims to hate non-musllims; it's the absolute bedrock of the belief.
I enjoyed this conversation very much. I learned Islam from watching lectures from Yasir Qadhi and Anwar al-Awlaki during the height of the Syrian revolution. It was the second world battle of islam in the modern era, no one has ever seen anything like it. It was soul-crushing to see muslims in other countries stand by saying nothing and doing nothing. Different colored flags in Syrian born hands on Syrian lands. The LGBT community cannot procreate therefore the ruling has already been passed by mother nature. However, if you don't let sinners in the church and masjid then it would be empty.
Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, blot out from us our iniquities, and take to Thyself our souls in the company of the righteous [3:193]
Seeing this already makes me excited
Even as the Sheikh so eloquently and clearly stated his views and position, there are still those ignorant ones who slander the Sheikh and call him names. Where will you go on the day of Judgement when Allah calls you forward? It is acceptable in Islam to differ on certain topics but what gives anyone the right to call a scholar who has dedicated his entire life and career to the study and teaching of the deen, a kafir! May Allah ﷻ bless Sheikh Yasir Qadhi and keep him for our ummah.
Dr yasir looks different without his glasses, masha Allah.
You all be tolerant. Merciful , my Lord is most merciful. I seek His mercy everyday. I have to be tolerant in order to deserve my Rub’s mercy.
MashaAllah, a true and an upcoming young scholar. May Allah keep you steadfast on deen and preserve you from any harm.

@TheRebelliousPrince007 and you give and provide Sirat Mustaqeem certificate and Jannah route? Every one of us will make mistakes, especially those of us who are constantly on the screen. If someone says something that's blatantly wrong in islam, we will disagree and warn against that specific concept, but to excommunicate a Muslim and call them deviant that may just come to you. Making judgement on pple is a serious matter. Just concentrate on reading and completing your Ramadan daily Quranic portions that is definitely more beneficial than taking pple out of the fold of deen without Scholarly knowledge
I am very fan of Dr Yasir Qadh

Assalamu alaikum wa rehmatullahi wa barakatuh, before anyone starts criticising the shaykh at least for the sake of Allah look at how much he has benefitted the Muslim Ummah around the globe, look at his positives before you criticise his opinions that you disagree with and realise he has spent more than 2 decades studying this deen, ask yourself how much time have you spent studying this deen? Also have you listened to his clarifications about his statements? May Allah guide all of us to the straight path. Jazak Allah khair for this video.

This guy is one of the components of "Islamic reformism" you should see his controversial (to say the least) reinterpretations of some of the clear-cut issues mentioned in Quran and Sunna related to the world of the unseen, such as equating Yajuj and Majuj to zombies...fictional creatures! That is just one of his many misgivings. Not to mention him being either too cosy with or actually advocating for the hard-line liberals and outright reformists, such as Jonathan Brown, Ilhan Omar, Linda sarsour, and Omar Sulaiman who have no problem in working with lgbt movement and further the LGBT agenda amongst the Muslim community.

It is a nice advise, but Jesus has to come because the law of Moses did not work. The law was holy, just and good, but can not make people change their heart, but the law judges us every time we breaks it. God uses the law to judge. Its like a judge being present next to you (the law) and condems you every time you break it. The breaking of the law is sin and sin caused us to die, and to get our life back we need to pay the blood as an exchange for life. Why? Because God said through Moses that it is the blood in our body that gives us life. Therefore animal sacrifices must be done to pay for our sins and it was temperory. Doesn't last like a one off sacrifice for ever. It was short term and a constant reminder as a sign pointing toward Jesus, the lamb of God that God sent to be a sacrifice for our sins. No one can get forgiveness unless their sins are justified by the blood. This was the condition for the children of Israel from the beginning through Moses. They had to do animal sacrifice to justify their sins by the blood of the animal that is sacrificed. A lamb had to take away the sin of them. Two daily sacrifices, plus 3 times per year other sacrifices in the temple was mandatory until Jesus came. He is the one who gave life to us all ... Through his blood life was given. Eternal life in heaven for all those who took a share of his blood and accepted him as their 'saviour'. His name is 'Yahshua' Arabic Isa means 'the one who saves people from their sin'. Sin entered the world through one man Adam, Life entered the world through one man Jesus. Jesus is the second head of all creation. The new creation is those who got life by being born again through Christ. Not only life entered through Christ, but also the Holy Spirit is given to us to dwell in our hearts and transform our hearts to guide and make us better people who can obey the law. He is the truth and he leads us to nothing but all truth. That is the only way we can fully obey God in the fullness that requires us to do it. All other ways will fail. The law failed. so Jesus had to come. There is no way to fulfil the law without Jesus. He said, 'I am the way, the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me'. May God show you the truth. Amen.

Please don't give this person a platform for speeches. I listened to him from time to time in the past, but since he began to talk and contradict ESSENTIAL AND CORE ISLAMIC BELIEF TOPICS it was clear for me, that he isn't following QURAN and SUNNAH anymore, and I don't need to mention many, there're a lot other who spoke and refuted his claims. Alone the fact, that he questions Yajooj and Majooj's story, which is CLEARLY in the Qur'ān and the Sahih Sunnah!!! A'udhu bi-llāh, may Allah keep us steadfast upon His Dīn, amin! So he the FIRST who came up with some strange talk about it after more than 1450 years, which NO scholar has mentioned! And at the same time he questions the scholars of Ahlu Sunnah on topics for which he DOESN'T have any proof. He aligns with Ahlul Bid'ah He has doubts about Aqidah He belittles the Sunnah He disrespects the Salaf, etc.etc. So guys, stop promoting him, because if you do, all the dalalāt he says, are counted for you as BAD DEEDS, just like the Messenger of Allah saws. mentioned it
