The last thing I want is to catch fish right next to the boat with 2' of line out [unless I'm in a tournament where weight is all that matters]. Having a fish hit at the furthest point of the cast is perfect so as to feel the fish through the line, having it take line out, seeing the pole bend, etc. It'd be like deer hunting where you step out of your truck and there's a deer 8' away; you shoot and "tada" you're all set vs getting into your blind, seeing a deer at a distance, allowing it to get close enough to take the shot. Anyway, jmo; great looking fish though.

Shooting a deer next to the truck would be catching one off the dock. Catching a musky in the 8 is like shooting a deer inside 10 yards. You get to see everything happen right infront of you. It way more exciting and challenging to catch one boat side. You have to make all the right moves in a split second and then if it works out you get to see it happen right In front of you. That’s my input on it.
