And this isn't anywhere near their best track, IMO. The producer put too much effect on Mayu's vocals: she doesn't need that to enhance her scream. Their songs often feature some phrases in Japanese and some in English. Like most of the Japanese musicians, Mayu doesn't really speak much English and learns English lyrics phonetically. The only one of the band who really spoke English was SAKI, one of the guitarists, who left the band around Easter. Until that point they had two co-lead 7-string guitarists. SAKI is one of Japan's best established guitarists: she was previously in a well-known band called Mary'd Blood for about 10 years. She was in Nemophila for 5 years. The remaining guitarist is Hazuki who has a very clean, modern shred style. Hazuki is also in a Band called KOIAI which is more of a prog/pop/metal/shred fusion band started by the amazing young guitarist Li-sa-X.

Nemophila is the perfect balance with clean/scream, at least for me. Mayu has a very distinctive but addicting raspy clean vocals. It's so perfect for so many unique songs. You really will like any song you hear from them. You will definitely love "Rise" & "Revive" from them. Just letting you know that the guitarist on the screen right recently left the band, but *Hazuki* guitarist on the screen left is a very capable shredder, and they are going forward with one guitarist. Which just means more unique creative songs including more Bass parts. The Bassist is also an outstanding Bassist.

Ok as a fan of Nemophila and Lovebites both, Nemo does not tend to do longer solos but short ones that mesh in with the feel of the song. Make no mistake though they both can shred their asses off. In Saki’s old band Mary’s Blood she would go off on longer solos that are very impressive. Marionette has a great one and the mv is easy to react to.

Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park"). The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by... Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band); Haraguchi-san - (ex- HöLDERLINS band) bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College; Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill"; Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, "Destrose", and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and... Hazuki (KOIAI "Dark Indigo" / Li-sa-X, Disqualia bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience. Nemophila made an amazing fandom impression during the pandemic, thru KZread clips... ...so far about 50 Western/Japanese awesomely bonkers covers, and about 40 original, freakishly insane good songs (singles, EPs - including the JPURecords' Extended Edition of "Oiran", 3 albums - "Revive", "Seize The Faith", "Evolve"). Discography, alphabetical order: 01. ADABANA - 徒花 - "Fruitless/seedless flower" 02. ALIVE 03. AMA-TE-RAS (Amaterasu goddess) 04. Another Story (ballad) 05. A Ray Of Light 06. Back into the wild 07. Blooming 08. Breaking Out 09. Change the World 10. Creature 11. DISSENSION 12. Enigma 13. ENTEN - 炎天 - "Scorching/blazing heat/sun" 14. Fighter 15. GAME OVER (ballad) 16. Hammer Down 17. Hōzuki - 鬼灯 - "Demon Light" - "Winter cherry" / "Japanese lantern" plant 18. HYPNOSIS 19. Justice 20. Life (ballad - their "official anthem") 21. MONSTERS 22. Night Flight (electro-rock song, one of their firsts, used as half-time breakout) 23. now I here (ballad) 24. ODYSSEY (ballad) 25. OIRAN - "Courtesan" (their first original song, in february 2020) 26. OSKR - "OShiKuRa manju" (children's song-game of pushing outside of a circle) 27. RAITEI - 雷霆 - "Thunder" 28. REVIVE 29. RISE 30. Rock’n’Roll Is? (an homage to famous rock bands/artists; the lyrics/melody and style of play are Easter Eggs) 31. Rollin’Rollin’ 32. Seize the Fate 33. Soaring ~to be continued~ (instrumental) 34. SORAI - "Autumn wind" (was supposed to be the original name for the band) 35. STYLE (rap-metal song) 36. - 群青 37. Waiting for you 38. YELL 〜軌跡〜 ("Kiseki - Trajectory", ballad) 39. ZEN ________ - Another Story... written during the pandemic, with the purpose of lifting the spirit; performed only once on stage for a live stream at the end of December 2020... but - according to Saki - "it's part of 'Cheer to Art, Tokyo Project' (started by Tokyo Metropolitan Government to offer place for artists to upload their work...since all lives, concerts, events and exhibitions had been suspended, all venues had been closed"; was posted on KZread, on this governmental channel: アートにエールを!【音楽 1ch】; although is no longer there, there are some reactions to it, just search "NEMOPHILA / AnotherStory". It's also kept on WebArchive: watch?v=WWSFd4N4pjU - Creature, Breaking Out... released only on Revive (It's Sooooo Nice To Finally Meet You!!!!!) Blu-ray; they are performed sometimes in concerts; Breaking Out... released during their first live stream in 2020, and Rizing Nemo in 2023; - Blooming... released only on the official Nemophila KZread channel, and performed sometimes in concerts. - Ultramarine/Gunjō performed in the second part of the 19 June 2021 stream. ___________________________

Welcome to the kickass world of Nemophila. Formed in 2019 and has released 3 albums the latest one released this past January. Originally a 5 piece band up until the end of March when Saki the guitarist left and is doing solo career at the moment. Hazuki the other guitarist is an amazing shredder too and the band is moving on as a four piece and still kicking ass. Mayu the singer has a great banshee scream and growl too. In this video it is more screechy because they used an effect but she is even better live. She mixes growls and cleans very well and they have quite a few where she just sings cleans only. She is also playing some guitar now on some of the songs and possible more in the future with the departure of the other guitarist Saki. The drummer Tamu is one of the best out of Japan and the bass player Haraguchi-san is kick ass bass player and a ball of fire and has composed a few of the bands coolest songs like Zen, Hypnosis and Style. They have also done a lot of kick ass covers especially during covid lockdowns. But their originals is where they shine the best. They are very diverse and play many styles of metal and rock and even a few ballads. Check out some of their live songs like Oiran Live( their first song together as a band) Zen Live is amazing she growls through that whole song no cleans. Also try Adabana, RAITEI,Revive,Rise. They are even more than that too.

Another band to check out is Koiai which features one of the guitarists from Nemophila (Hazuki } along with another phenomenal guitarist Lisa-X. The song to see is A New Picture (Live in Japan). You wont be disappointed by either.

Nemophila (not Nemophil-i-a) are one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and blew up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” They are a supergroup, currently composed of: ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu (founded the band) ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu (she is also in high demand for session work) Until April 2024, they were a 5-piece band. The fifth member, and actually the band-leader until she left, was ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki, arguably one of the top metal guitarists in the world. It remains to be seen as of this writing what directions the band and Saki, respectively, will take. Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood). Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a unique vocalist capable of both cleans and hell-raising screams. Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. They started by posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” kzread.info/dash/bejne/l62WlLCtgNrJqMY.html The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and appearances at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an emotional moment captured on live stream: “Life” kzread.info/dash/bejne/enqip7uhkqinoco.html After Oiran, others to check include "Dissension" (which you just did) and “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: kzread.info/dash/bejne/npxhxriFe7OZYZc.html More recent drops that showcase their intensity and versatility: “Adabana” kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6yNy7Gwo9icp7g.html “Style” kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6Scl6mIfpnYgMY.html (written by their bassist, Haraguchi-san) “Seize the Fate” kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zqikya6yk868ico.html “Rise” kzread.info/dash/bejne/pHhnuK96nZCfmaQ.html Since Saki’s departure: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5N1rcaggceYYLA.html They have toured the U.S. twice. I saw them live and they blew the roof off the place. Nemophila’s youtube channel: kzread.info/dron/voAeGZoC8giXP59NOZABIA.htmlvideos If you haven’t already, another band frequently suggested after Nemophila is Hanabie. Try “We Love Sweets” kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWVs29uvgKbPhLA.html

For me..Most promising metalband in this Universe. They are doin’ same to Metal than Band-Maid is doin’ to Rock, they are saving it! Mayu’s vocals are definitely my alltime favourite vocals allready. Tamu( drummer) is my alltime favourite drummer. Haraguchi-sun on bass is the most loveable person ever. I have a little crush on her 😅 Hazuki is nowadays the only guitarist on the band, after Saki left three months ago. Hazuki is phenomenal musician and has allready shown that she can carry on those guitar parts on her own. As a 4 piece band today..They’ve been in studio and we are waiting new music to release later this year. They have made ca 10 liveshows in past two months and every reviews are praising how good they sound and how heavy they are, even heavier than before 🤘🔥 Magical band, amazing musicians 💥 Next song.. Whammy bar girl (Saki) was already a legend when she joined Nemophila, she’s gone on to do her own thing now, but be sure to check out some of her old Mary’s Blood tracks, and her latest MV “The Empress”. Nemophila decided not to replace her and I’m still to be convinced by new music that they will be as good as this. They have two albums’s worth of top quality music out there, Oiran is a must listen.

So from what I understand there is some English taught in schools but it is not to the level of fluency required in conversation. It is fairly common to have English words in Japanese songs, whether this is to add emphasis or sound cool or whatever depends on the song and the group and the target audience (Japanese groups with a Western audience or hoping to attract a Western audience will add more and try to use them correctly). That said there are some Japanese bands where some of the members are actually fluent in English, Nemophila was one of them (Saki the guitarist on the right is fully fluent in English, however she has recently left the band, there is an older interview with her by Herman Li of DragonForce in English talking about all things guitar/music/bands kzread.info/dash/bejne/nGutuM-DmN3Rgaw.html) I'm not sure how much English the rest of the band knows but Saki was the one that talked to the crowd at the US shows (I seem to recall Mayu saying she was working on it). Another band that has members that are fluent in English is Lovebites with both Asami and Midori being fully fluent (Asami perhaps a bit more than Midori, but both have spent significant time in the USA, here is a video of them speaking English kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZaiLlKh8mce4ls4.html), further Miyako and Fami seem to have spent a bit of effort learning a few phrases and working on their pronunciation but they don't seem to be fluent. The one band that you would be sure the singer was fluent in English is Lonesome_Blue (see "Face The Fear" kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2uB25iig7OonJc.html) but it turns out no she isn't, Maiko Nomura is just a damn good vocalist and voice actress (maybe she has studied International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) which is taught in high level Vocal/Acting Schools). I don't remember if it was an interview or social media or KZread, but I recall her saying she can't speak English (which was shocking because of how good her pronunciation is). Asami from Lovebites did help with some of the lyrics for Lonesome_Blue (Mao a long time collaborator with Lovebites wrote some of the music). There is a band from Korea that is highly skilled linguistically, Rolling Quartz (all female, 5 piece, KRock, they are getting a lot of attention on the internet lately), in addition to Korean, 4 of them speak English, 2 of them speak Japanese, 1 Speaks Spanish, 1 can read/write Russian, and 1 is learning Arabic. The amount of determination they have to learn things is amazing.

And they deal with the choice whether to help the victims or to join the haters. *Nemophila (of course) plead for helping victims* and for warning the haters: "Better end that shit." And "One day it will be too late to regret. You will end up in dark loneliness." ( *"Countdown is starting. Remember that."* ) Hell of a message.

She doesn't speak English she learns the English lyrics phonetically. Yes, both guitarists play in the solos and usually have a duet during the solo section. The other band members are Haraguchi-san (Bass), Murata Tamu (Drums), Hazuki (Guitar) and Saki (Guitar, she left the band in March 2024, the band has continued as a four piece). Theres no "IA" at the end of the name. Optical illusion that 99% of people fall for. Its just FILA at the end. If you like something different try their early song from the same period as Dissension called "MONSTERS". One of my favorites from Nemophila and is a great track for guitar as well. The other track with the interesting and excellent break down is Adabana. Nemophila dont have a bad song really. If you would like to see how a band transfers into a 4 piece (since the guitarist with red fingernails, Saki, just left) check out their older songs, now re-released last month with just Hazuki as lead, called "Rise" and also "Back into the Wild".

MAYU is screaming in English, just as you see in the subtitles. The clean parts are a mix of Japanese and English. I think they mix it up to make the songs sound cool to the Japanese audience. Most Japanese labels make zero effort to promote their acts overseas. FYI, this video was originally released without subtitles. As groups like BAND-MAID, LOVEBITES, HANABIE, and NEMOPHILA gained more attention in KZread, their managment have gradually made more efforts to reach foreign audiences, at least through social media, and some touring, but you still can buy media (music and video) only in Japan. Next, watch ADABANA, RISE, MONSTERS, and REVIVE. Start with the OMVs, then move on to live videos.
