I Will Always Love You was written by Dolly Parton to honor Porter Wagoner when she left his show. Was also used in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She gave her blessing to Whitney Houston to use it in The Bodyguard as well as releasing it on one of her albums.

Of course it’s staged, this is TV. KELLY & ari were singing those songs perfectly and the seamless transitions gave it away that this was rehearsed.

No one mentioned that Ariana had all pop songs, while Kelly had pop, R&B and country songs. No one has the versatility she does.

The real winners were the people that got to see this live! Both were incredible!

Great reaction! They just killed it on those songs. As to whether it's random or staged, I don't really know for sure but I feel like the genre had to be chosen before because that was just too fitting. Nevertheless I loved the performance. Also this isn't really a request, but Jimmy, Ariana, and Megan Thee Stallion made a kind of Christmas song called "It was a Masked Christmas" which you can check out if you want. It was decent in my opinion but they autotuned Jimmy's vocals a lot which I didn't love. So you can check that out if you want

I’m not sure how true this is, and it’s going to show my age, that for the bodyguard soundtrack david foster asked Dolly Parton permission for Whitney to Cover this song. She said only if she sang the bridge of the song because the version Whitney was going to sing was more of a cover of Linda Rostadt’s cover of the same song. Same key, same big belts on the chorus compared to the subdued Dolly version

its 100% rehearsed beforehand, but still so amazing nonetheless!

I read somewhere that Kelly said her earpieces weren't working, so she couldn't even hear herself sing. If true, that's even more incredible. Especially considering they were unrehearsed, singing with a live band, in front of a live audience, on national TV.
