The complete album, Dark Side of the Moon is a definite must listen. The album is meant to be listened to in its entirety from start to finish, as each song blends into the next song on the album. I suggest you film and listen to it in one sitting... and then you can post it in sections. Enjoy the Ride.

For 45 years my go to bands have been Rush and Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon was in the upper charts for 18 years straight after it came out. A MUST reaction listen.

Good call on the Steely Dan comparison, which I hadn't thought of. Both bands focused on production, and I call them studio bands, because in an important sense the studio as a whole was the instrument more than what hardware they were playing.

The Floyd song you said you remembered, “Welcome to the machine” follows this track on the “Wish you were here” Album!

so what do you get when you combine one of the most recognized lyricist in all of Rock (Roger Waters), with one of the most celebrated guitarists of all time (David Gilmour - also doing vocals here every bit is emotive as his guitar), with a keyboard/synth player that's been known to make people forget what planet they're on? You get Pink Floyd. That last bit with the wind at the end was actually the beginning of the next song. Almost all songs on most of their biggest albums of the '70s flow seamlessly into each other. So when you do a song you're doing part of a larger concept album that is all connected from beginning to end. This is from the album "Wish You Were Here". Why not stay with it and start off with "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" 1-5. It clocks in a little over 13 minutes but don't worry, you won't feel it. Time has a way of being obliterated when listening to this amazing, one of a kind band. Enjoy the ride!! [Do the studio audio version, avoid the video. Just a distraction] .

The segue to this song from the previous song is a radio in mono. That's the initial lyrics you recited, but you started the song after that part. As the radio changes channels it settles on a lone acoustic guitar. The man changing the radio then settles in to play along on his own guitar. This first guitar represents former band member Syd Barrett. The accompanying guitar is that of David Gilmour who was to replace Syd when Syd went nuts. Syd's guitar eventually fades out as the rest of the band comes in. kinda sad. The lyrics are Roger Waters the lyricist and bass player for The Floyd. For David this song reminds him of Syd. For Roger it is the bigger picture. We all can accomplish what he and the band have accomplished. A lot of hard work and determination. Quote from Roger: "Can you free yourself enough to be able to experience the reality of life as it goes on before you and with you, and as you go on as a part of it or not. Because if you can't, you stand on square one -- until you die. That's what the song's about. All the songs are encouraging me, I guess I write them for me, and it's to encourage myself not to accept a lead role in a cage: to go on demanding of my self that I keep auditioning for the walk on part in the war, because that's where I want to be. I want to be in the trenches. I don't want to be at headquarters or I don't want to be sitting in a hotel somewhere. I want to be engaged in a way my father would approve of. "

Hi John just found your channel, I like it. Pink Floyd are defiantly an album band, a couple of top tracks are “Time”, “Money” and “ Shine on you crazy diamond. Please react to more Primus, maybe “Wynona’s big brown beaver”

From Dark Side of the Moon onwards, Pink Floyd albums are like books, so with each song being a chapter they might seem out of context on their own. Some stuff off MEDDLE is more stand-alone, check out ONE OF THESE DAYS, FEARLESS, and if you have the time, the outstanding and top tier ECHOES.

David Gilmour made the best sounds with his guitar. On this album the song Have A Cigar features vocals by Roy Harper.

Pink Floyd , my favourite is 'Echoes' -an underrated piece - you don't hear of it much- this is about Sid Barret by the way - makes it even more poignant - guitarist Dave Gilmour -one of the best - not over the top like some

Smooth and deliberate is a signature of David Gilmour. The song starts on an AM radio and a kid in his bedroom playing along with his guitar... See this interview with David Gilmour: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a3ttk6qKgraxh5c.html (David Gilmour Talks About Wish You Were Here) Some of the songs are lamenting the loss of an original member of Pink Floyd - Syd Barrett who went insane. This lends some meaning to the lyrics here - questioning one's perception of reality. In the above video the interviewer asks David to play those 4 magical notes - which are part of Shine On You Crazy Diamond - also from Wish You Were Here album. That is specifically about the tragedy of Syn Barrett's descent into madness. Watch this live performance of Shine On by David in Gdansk: kzread.info/dash/bejne/naWMppeHe82alJc.html (Shine On You Crazy Diamond - David Gilmour live @ Gdansk 2006) They start off with 3 guys playing chords on wine glasses! But this version, you really see/feel the pain and sense of loss David felt at loosing his close childhood friend to mental illness in his delivery of the vocals. As to what you should listen to and react to next: Definitely Dark Side of the Moon. But don't do individual songs - actually the album really does not have "songs" per se, but chapters to a book each sliding or transitioning into the next smoothly without breaks. Listen to it as a whole - perhaps a video with side 1 and then another video with side 2. It is one of the highest selling albums of all time - for a reason! it is pure musical and lyrical genius as well as masterful dynamics, engineering and taking you on a trip through a soundscape that is truly incredible! It has amazing relevance to the human condition, irrespective of time period or age and is truly moving in immediate and deeper levels. Then watch this documentary on the making of, interviewing all the band members: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIl20LVud5aaebA.html (PINK FLOYD - The Dark Side Of The Moon 2003 Documentary )

Dude before you dive in to the main Pink Floyd line-up it really helps to know... Founding band member Syd Barrett dropped out of the band suffering severe mental health issues and the effects of drug abuse. Syd was replace on Lead Guitar by a friend of the band Dave Gilmore. Existing band member Roger Waters took over most of the lyric writing. Syd was dearly loved and his lose is a major topic in alot of Floyd tracks including Wish You Were Here which is the title track to the album of the same name. Every track directly references Syd. One track "S Hine on Y ou crazy D iamond" even spells his name. Highly recommend"Echoes” (part 1) Live at Pompeii No lights, No Audience, just musical genius 😉
