Wow, one of the best reactions, really enjoying your passion and involvement, some vids out there tend to be too technical, some too hyped, but you are kinda giving it in balance, which I like and appreciate very much. Regarding Descending, its so primal song, more I listen to it I get like freaking visions of some creative force descending into the ocean and almost like igniting the life itself on this beautiful planet of ours. Thank you Samurai, looking forward to more of your reactions 🙏🧘‍♂️, spiral out!

Funny that you mention that. I was wondering if they even look like they try or if it’s like it’s part of their breathing pattern. You watch the drum cam for pneuma, and Danny doesn’t even look like he is trying. Almost like he just woke up from a nap and got on stage. Makes me think of Hendrix and how he would make the instrument part of his soul. If any of that makes sense

  • @ReflectionTool637

@@ericj4550 It does make sense - when a talented musician lives in their music world lots of greatness occurs. But, never dismiss the incredible hard work that comes from practice. DC has mentioned many times in interviews over the years all the drum exercises (rudiments) he does for "limb independence" and to build polyrhythms from that. Also, they spend 5+ years in the studio about daily to create the instrumentation for an album - THAT is a lot of work ;)

@@ReflectionTool637 I agree. Practice practice practice don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t trying to imply that they didn’t work hard lol. It just shows the love and dedication they have to their craft. They could, heaven forbid, stop today and be legends.

Thanks for the reaction, that was a fun watch. I love when guitars are right up there in the mix enough to really complete the 'wall of sound'. Good music is like worship really, new worlds open up and all that, pretty vivid when done right. Floyd is one of my other all-time favorites, along with most of The Doors stuff. A good solo just really caps things off, and even better when drums, bass, and guitar get a bit of their individual time in the spotlight. What I got from it was; starts out with life evolving from the ocean, which is why the water is deep at first, then transitions to beach as we crawl out of the sea to try our luck on land in the oxygen. The drive always to stay alive, no matter what organism it is, leading to changes and adaptation. But *we've* reached a point where we either figure out all how to survive together or kill ourselves off while destroying most of the ecosystem and returning the planet back to times before any species could attempt to understand the universe we all inhabit -possibly anywhere in the universe, as far as we know. Hence the closing waves crashing on the beach as life descends.

Can’t remember if it was this reaction or the one for 7empest. Totally different sounds but they both take you on this journey with their music that no other band has ever made me experience. You should definitely check out the drum cam video of Danny on Pneuma if you haven’t already. It’s practically the only professionally shot footage of them live and it’s just bananas seeing what he does, absolutely next level. There are some pretty good phone cam videos from the FI tour too that are worth checking out. Danny sounds just as amazing playing Descending live as he does on the studio recording.

I enjoyed your orgiastic experience with this song and agree that their music requires active listening. When I’m driving long distance in my car, the Fear Innoculum album is perfect content to make the time go by. I’d really like your take on Natalie Merchant’s studio version of Carnival. It kind of has a calypso beat with some great guitar work. Yes, it is far removed from Tool, but the artistry in this song is really compelling and I’d like to witness your take. Thanks for your channel and I’ll be following along with you on your journey.

@@GoldTop57 You speak on a important part imo, and that's Adam not trying to play as fast as possible. I'm self taught on guitar, with plenty of influences. Adam Jones is my biggest influence regarding composition. I played on band in high school, and I learned that music isn't just playing as many notes as possible. Everything is composed in such a way to create an emotion. This is largely placed on the pace of a piece. Having a note here and and note there every few seconds can create huge suspenseful moments before diving into organized chaos. My original pieces aren't fast, but they are methodical and precise to create the atmosphere I want for my music.

The "Planet Caravan vibes" you got was the vocal effect. On Planet Caravan, Ozzy's voice was sent through a Leslie speaker, which is a speaker that spins around at different speeds to give a pulsing effect. Here, the effect is most likely emulated digitally, but you never know. The Leslie effect is one of my favorite vocal effects. It's cool that you recognized it as having a similarity to Planet Caravan. Great reaction so far!

Rosetta Stoned is the pinnacle of Tool for me. Takes a while to have your ears trained to get to that level. For The Grudge, I immediately was drawn to it and it is a masterpiece of course, but the longer I listen to Tool the more I move towards those songs that I didn't like at first. Rosetta Stoned was just a blast in my face at first and I had no idea what all that noise was. I honestly didn't like it. But after months (and even years) after listening, Rosetta Stoned's 8 minute buildup to "Overwhelmed as one would be" is Tool at its finest.
