Andrea Bocelli, born September 22, 1958 in Lajatico, Tuscany, near the historic city of Pisa, Italy, is an Italian singer, musician, multi-instrumentalist, writer and music producer.
He was born with a hereditary form of glaucoma and became completely blind at the age of 12.
He grew up on the family farm. Fascinated by opera and traditional Italian music from an early age, he dreamed of following in the footsteps of his idols, Italy's greatest tenors of the 20th century, including Enrico Caruso, Mario Del Monaco, Beniamino Gigli, Franco Corelli.
At the age of six he began to play the piano and later the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, harp, guitar and drums. Bocelli also spent a lot of time singing during his childhood.
After finishing high school in 1980, he received a doctorate in law from the University of Pisa.
To pay for his university studies, he played in bars at night.
Bocelli's voice soon attracted attention outside of Italy, with his duet "Time to Say Goodbye" (Con Te Partiro) with soprano Sarah Brightman.
In 1999 he received the "Best New Artist" Grammy nomination, becoming the first classical artist to be nominated in this category in 38 years.
In 2001, Bocelli released his autobiographical book "The Music of Silence", and ended the year with another successful pop album "Cieli di Toscana".
In 2007, he released his first "Best of", Vivere which sold over 3 million copies.
On September 20, 2018, he released his first single alongside his son Matteo entitled "Fall On Me", a song that has a Spanish version.
He has released 16 Studio albums (Pop), 11 Classical Music albums and 12 Complete Operas.
