Music Teacher Reacts | GEOFF CASTELLUCCI - Jack's Lament
Once again here we are with the genius of Geoff Castellucci. An amazing performance for a song I had already considered to be immaculate. Geoff does wonders to this classic tune and all just in time for the spooky season.

Geoff wanted to leave a hopeful feel for Jack, knowing that he would discover Christmas. But, he didn't want to change the end of the song. So, after his signature logo, two gramaphones appeared, he added another scene. Jack is still at the piano and it starts to snow; he looks up and reaches out to touch the miracle of snow. Geoff also added a brief portion of his behind the scenes video, I hope you had the opportunity to watch it. Great reaction, hope you are going to react to Voiceplay's Hellfire from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The snow also felt to me like a bit of a nod to another Burton film - reminds me of Edward Scissorhands

Exactly, and as he reaches out to touch the snow, he gives just a glimpse of the softest, sweetest smile. It touches me so deeply I can't help crying.

Concept and Creative Direction - Geoff and Kathy Castellucci. Geoff and Kathy went over the top with this one. Zero is correct. Most of this set came from Geoff and Kathys' home decor and yard. Arranged, Produced, Performed, Directed, and Edited by Geoff Castellucci. Rick Underwood did fantastic make-up as always.

Geoff does it everything but the final mixing. His wife Kathy helps him a lot. She made Zero & made somany other things for Geoff in his videos. She always lends a hand to Voice Play as well. She is amazing. Thank you for another great reaction to Geoff.

And this is why I try to watch all the reactors with musical training: I have watched this countless times and never caught that the bass keys weren’t sounding. And I’ve heard people theorizing about that sound thinking it was the pedals. I love this song. I was not going to watch the movie and then I heard the song and caved and I’m so glad I did. But I am thrilled that Geoff decided to put his signature spin on this classic. Not only did we get to hear those fantastic vocals but his acting was absolutely incredible. Jack has always tugged at my heart strings a little because he was so successful at what he did but he wanted to try new things and felt he couldn’t . And Geoff captured all those same feelings so well. I find it interesting that VoicePlay’s release this month, he plays another conflicted character. He is playing Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame- a man who believes himself to be pious but instead is truly evil. I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not but in this, there’s a section where Geoff’s eyes glow with pumpkins in the irises, and in Hellfire it’s flames

It is more a pedal sound than not. There's no bass keys sounding, because none are being played. It's entirely above a C4.

Thank you for your insight! I watch musically-trained reactors hoping they'll point out stuff I missed or did not recognize, and you did not disappoint. Geoff shared in a recent interview with Tara Simon Studios that originally VoicePlay only made videos as promos for their live performances. It was Layne who believed that videos would be useful in and of themselves in the future, so they continued to learn audio and video editing. Phantom of the Opera in 2015 was their first big theatrical video, and they've been getting better at them ever since. Yes, Geoff goes all out. Took him two days to get all the black makeup off. Rick Underwood did the makeup, and Geoff and Kathy got some help with the heavy lifting on set (literally -- the grand piano took four men to set up) but otherwise pretty much do everything themselves. He did bring in a cameraman and focus puller for this one, but often it's just Kathy running the cameras. Ed Boyer does the final audio mix, as he does for many a capella groups like VoicePlay and Home Free, but Geoff did the film editing. For Geoff and VP videos, let them roll until the Patreon list shows, as there are often little nuggets or extra scenes. Also recommend headphones (the "bon jour" was only in the left channel) and captions on. Since Kathy has significant hearing loss, Geoff often puts in funny things to read.

Geoff is the best Jack ever! 🤯 As it reads in the credits: "Arranged, Produced, Performed, Directed and Edited by Geoff Castellucci", with his wife Kathy as Production Manager and Ed Boyer as Sound Engineer. I hope you'll react to VoicePlay's Hellfire soon, from Hunchback of Notre Dame. And yes, Geoff is also the best Frollo 🔥

the nice thing about Halloween songs they are well suited to deep bass voices, so the song feels natural, not just a showcase for a voice. Plus, the song is actually interesting. Well done. I like it.

They need to make a live action version of The Nightmare Before Christmas, with Geoff playing the part of Jack. They need to use this version of the song, and also the various versions of songs from the movie that Voice Play has done. Mayube get one of the Bass Gang or Eric Holloway to play Oogie Boogie.
