David comes from a long line of famous Jewish Cantors. He was being trained in his youth to become one. I guess his heart belonged to a different style of music. He was born to sing this song. Thank you David!!!!

I first heard, and then learned, this song when I was just seven (1964) by the best singing nun we ever had at my Catholic school..it brought me to tears then and David has brought me to tears once again with his beautiful rendition of this classic 1960’s song!

Paul Simon has always hated covers of his tunes. But after hearing this one, he actually called David to thank and congratulate him, and then linked to it on one of his social media pages. As Paul put it, the Simon and Garfunkel version was the whisper of a warning, and that Disturbed’s version was the anger that the warning was not heeded.

With David's version, it's a train wreck, AND GOD HELP ME, I CAN'T FIX IT, ITS TOO LATE, AND I'M GOING TO SEE THE WORLD BREAK, AND ALL THE PARTS THAT ARE WORTHY OF LOVE WILL BE DESTROYED BY A VAPID, UNWORTHY, CHATTERING, MUFFLED CLOUD, COVERING WHAT WAS REAL, GOOD, AND PURE, WITH THIS... I always listen all the way through but then I LOVE when you pick out the details. I do the same and you teach me a lot about catching things I haven’t before. How David was able to sing with those drums right behind him is insane, he must be playing them lightly because those things will knock you out sitting right in front of them when they hit them hard enough lol….. I won’t admit I know that from being a sax player (at the time) and watching the back row of the band get knocked out of their chairs by the sound off of those lol.

David has given us a "Battle Cry" with this song to get off our ass and do something about "The growing silence and indifference" we have about not listening to what the world is showing and telling us or die! Please watch his video on this song to see the imagery more clearly of what he is trying to say! David started as a Jewish cantor and is a classically trained musician but he chose to go into heavy metal--a very rebellious switch but so worth it in this song and yes, I am from the Simon and Garfunkel era whose song to me was just a wish for change but this song is more of a dare to change or die!!

One of the things I love about this version of the song in general is the use of vocal fry/rasp/distortion as an emotional push in the feeling of the song - it implies anger which for this version (I've seen the statement that the original was a warning and this is a reaction about a million times) just works incredibly well. Additionally as an old school Disturbed fan just the control and switch between the fry and the rich melodic serves to really highlight the skill and talent as a singer DD has.

Disturbed! Yeah👏🏼👏🏼 between this and Pentatonix I get major whiplash. This video sucked me into checking out the rest of their catalog. Considering I’ve NEVER liked hard rock, let alone metal. Thanks to David I now listen to and love songs like…STRICKEN…STUPIFY…PRAYER…and of course, DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS. One more thing. I LOVE the David Draiman bow at the end.

David is adding in his angry rasp because its Disturbed, but he specifically did it after the optimistic lyrics (in the higher octave) "Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you". The next line is "but my words like silent raindrops fell" (ie, no one is taking head to his warning), which is the first type he does a concentrated angry rasp. The most intense is during the next lines about people praying to the neon gods they made.

So funny you're coming to this just now. It was this video that started my pandemic induced exploration of youtube and beyond. From Disturbd's SoS to PTX' version and more (what fun there!), from PTX' cover of "when the party's over" led me to Billie Eilish (words can't even...). Along the way I've "discovered" Aurora Aksnes and Angelina Jordan, and so many others. What a long strange trip it's been. Keep rockin' brother.

I enjoy this version even more than the video. It shows that he is human. It’s said that he walked off stage angry BUT hear me out, is it possible that he lost his voice after giving his everything? It happened to me on a choir tour when due to sickness I was the only soprano left standing.

I have been watching these reaction videos for two days straight and its always worth a smile when ppl hear David's voice or if they have been Mitch-slapped in Pentatonix.... I love all Pentatonix and most of Disturbed versions.... You did mention that David was sick for the taping of them on Conan....dude smashed the song, BUT I like the video official version....his vocals are fuller and little things make the video is my fave version.... Don't get me wrong, he blows vocals away, but check out video

For instance, on the video version when he's singing the part around "10,000 ppl maybe more" he powers his voice infinity better...can't blame him tho....he still sings live better than most bands...just a bit short on some lyrics, he doesn't opt to take all the power bc he was sick

There's nothing more to add to this epic version, that hasn't already been said! My first time here, so I don't know much about you. However, if you teach and are into guitars, then I wonder if you've ever listened to Hank Marvin? He's the lead guitarist of the UK instrumental band called the Shadows. Growing up, guitarists like Mark Knopfler, (Die Straights), Eric Clampton and Brian May(Queen), were inspired to pick up a guitar by him. The band's first solo UK number one, was in May 1960. But theyhad also had a couple of number ones before, and after their solo release, with Cliff Richard, as well as a fair other number ones and top 10s. Hank was the first person in the UK to have a red start too, ordered from the US by Cliff Richard. They started in 1958 and their final tour was in 2008, 50 years. And then they did one last, two night date at the O2 in London, with Cliff, in 2009. Which I was luckily enough to go to, along with the other eight concerts I'd been to since childhood. Even if you don't react, you should give their Golden Greats album a listen to.

I really like the music video as well, the quiet parts feels more reflective and frustration and anger feel more personal, the way they filmed it.
