Musicman Stingray IV: Like the Precision Bass and Jazz Bass, the Music Man Stingray was a hugely innovative bass designed by Leo Fender. The original was one of the first basses to use active electronics which gives the Stingray a big, punchy sound that's since been embraced by players like John Deacon of Queen and Flea. Currently, Musicman makes a few variations on the original Stingray including this standard Stingray 4- string.

    Love that Stingray sound. Incredible bass sound used by: (some of my favorite players) Pino Palladino, Bernard Edwards & Paul Denman ( Sade band ). oNe LovE from NYC

    I always play fast forward when I hear slapping. Noone uses this old fashioned technique anymore. Thank God.

    I reckon Cliff Williams (AC/DC) has used this a lot to to get that thick rock sound.He is the reason why I picked up the bass guitar in the first place.

    Lots of people did. Because AC/DC is a huge influence still today. Not so RHCP or Queen. I like them all, but the latter are almost forgotten.

    Well he used this bass around 1976-78 it was used in the Hyde park concert, Earl's Court and probably a lot more times around then but yeah you're right he usually used precision basses with the exception of some like the Rickenbacker and the Jazz bass for killer queen... I made a whole chart of this... How sad is that...

    Go to the website and look it up (you coulda googled this yourself): www.music-man.com/serial-number-database Tells you where you can find the serial number. Mine is on bridge under strings.

    That one line makes me want to purchase one of these super badly. Been in the market for a bass for a little while and the demo on this one really puts this sting Ray model on the top of my list. Thank you for being able to get into the grove and showing off what these bad boys can do.

    Jazz bass offers more tones, a thick neck pickup and a thin bridge pickup. Both combined makes a great balance

    Bassist player both are amazing for it the Stingray has the midrangey sound for slapping and really digging in and the jazz has a wide range of tones that you can use from Rock to Funk.

    Those new Stingrays with the 3EQ section are, to my own opinion, not very good instruments. I have a 1991 MM20 with the 2EQ section that sounds wayyyyyyy better. Last year got myself the 1976 4 strings with a 10 poles pickup and the black epoxy preamp... man ! this bass is shaking ground like no other. Anyone should try to find an old stingray, really.
