Hi Jerry! My Uncle Dub worked for you & Herb 25+ years @A&M! I was on that lot hundreds of times growing up in the 60s 70s and 80s!

Thank you Mr. Moss for all you have done FOR MUSIC! Respect!

Having watched this I can completely understand how A&M became successful: Hard work, good judgement, excellent business acumen, musical and artistic taste, respect, and a sense of adventure. All qualities that are rare in the business nowadays. Herb and Jerry are part of the Mount Rushmore of the music business. Only wished he had shed some light on obtaining Creed Taylor and branching out with some excellent jazz releases, much the same way they decided to embrace rock. Otherwise, excellent interview.

At the end: “What did we do to deserve this?”. Alpert and Moss were decent men. Standup guys who treated people well.

Herb Loved & supported Karen & Richard let me tell you, as for Jerry, The Carpenters were not high up on his list. Glad Herb seen it through.

Gino Vannelli was overlooked in this great documentary.. Brother To Brother was a smash hit record and to this day regarded as a masterpiece recording..

In the 70s i was in electronics sales and saw a picture of the studio recording equipment setup at A and M studios and saw 4 giant Altec A7s on the wall side by side and realizing how clear the sound quality was on A/M LPs ,I immediately knew the speaker system i was gonna use for my personal home stereo setup. At 500 dollars each i thought that`s ok! Still gottem 49 years later

I met Mr. Moss in person by accident at Santa Anita race track, he was a regular at the track like me, one day during races at Santa Anita there was a section in the grand stand under a big tent where one could sit down, read the racing form and bet as well, I was walking over to make my bet, there were only 2 long lines, got into one shorter line and here come Mr Moss all nervous to make a bet but could not get into a line, time was running out, suddenly I asked him if I could make the bet for him, he agreed and gave me 1000 $ to bet on his horse, as soon as I made the bet and handed him his ticket the race went off, his horse won and paid more than 20$ to win, he came back to the tent area and gave me 500$, that was the only time I spoke to him in all the years I saw him at the tracks here in southern California. When I heard he passed away I felt very sad, I remember as well when he had horses with Bobby Frankel who was a New Yorker like himself. Rest in peace Mr Moss and Robert Frankel.

Reading about this guy in "Little Girl Blue," the story of Karen Carpenter. Jerry Moss signed the Carpenters on April 22, 1969. I was 4 yrs. old.

Very interesting. I didn’t know they had a working relationship for a while with Waylon Jennings.

$100 per week was fairly normal. A mortgage on a regular 3-2 house was $100 per month. 25% of your gross should be budgeted towards housing, which was the standard at the time.

If it wasn’t for you, we would of never heard The Police and their hits

I HAVE HAD A&M RECORDS FOR DECADES BUT THE SOUND QUALITY IS REALL BAD. HIGH AND LOW FREQUENCIES ARE NON-EXISTENT NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE SOUND SYSTEM PLAYED ON!!!!

I am 30 minutes into it and need to get a coffee. So far the story is incredibly boring, esoteric... Isn't this this the great shop that put out Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, etc. ?

NACIJUK I think you'll find that there a LOT of stories like this that you'll find "incredibly boring." You said it yourself: "esoteric." Which means that only certain people will REALLY find this an interesting and compelling interview. You're evidently not one of them. Expecting a record company exec to be as entertaining as the acts the label records is a little like comparing the proverbial apples and oranges...

NO it is NOT "the great shop that out Neil Young, Joni Michell", that was REPRISE RECORDS. You are mixing up mixing up record companies. A&M Records and Reprise Records are two different companies. Further, the story is not "incredibly boring". Research FIRST, comment SECOND. The man is telling HIS STORY and should be respected
