@Mateusz Music is actually one of the few industries where that isn't 100% of the case. With any creative art, if you go full on mechanical without talent, your art will be bland and dead inside. Nobody wants that. This is especially prominent in something as complex as music.

Music is one of the most fundamental aspects in creating the proper mood and tone for shows, video games, movies, etc. The proper utilization of soundtracks for anime's can transform a simple show into a work of art. Music can make or break a show. From the emotional ost's you hear from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso to the exhilarating and godlike ost's you hear from Shingeki no Kyojin, it can completely alter a viewer's mood. Music is a powerful tool.

AoT is definitely one of the best examples of a show that would be no where near as popular without it's soundtrack, and I'm not just talking about the OPs. Also, Your Name without the Radwimps soundtrack would be called No Name.

I’m so glad he did that “but in the context of the rest of the show” part because it was so fucking true. Tokyo Ghoul is probably the anime that I’ve seen that has annoyed the living shit out of me the most, for so many different reasons, because I liked it, I wanted to see things happen because elements of it are interesting, AND THEN IT JUST SHITS ON ITSELF... Anyway, the scene of dumbass walking like a slow fucking emo kid normally would have been very appreciated, but in that context, it irritated the shit out of me...so yeah, IS SHE STILL RUNNING? Lmao

Ashley Yang yeah, the edgy teenagers certainly didn’t help my view of the show prior to watching it. -though, it didn’t hinder how I felt about the show either, the show irritates me all on its own merits. I still want to like it, and I do, but I also hate it and I can’t stand the main character, the show builds up an epic moment but all the motherfucker learned to do was pop his knuckles like an edgy boi, lmao

Statikk Sheev there are few to none animes that take emotions as a part of our soul. Violet Evergarden is a pure, non cliche show like the others out there. It shows the real beauty of the 1900s, where we thought it was black and white, but it was really the majestic century of the world. Gigguk didnt dive in so much to Violet Evergarden because he is already influenced to non-emotion anime like shounen and other violent anime crap out there. AND MAAAN.. as a human being, we really need love, but in this 21st century, the social standards are ridiculously high like they’re treating us like robots. Love is misinterpreted by so many. Some by body, wealth, accomplishments, face and many more. And love is never about doubts, regrets, expectations, and greatness. It’s removing all of burden from your heart, and have full trust on the one you’re loving. But our love nowadays are influenced by our environment. I know you think I’m talking nonsense here, but that’s the point of influenced interpretation. From the past centuries, Love is so good. But now, look at us now, lookin like robots dressed in a human mannequin.

Gurren Laganns Libera me from Hell was a god damn masterpiece. Doing rap over piano and drums and then having the opera with the bass of the drums coming through the background was epic. When they fuse the two at the end it really gives the tingles.

Omg right! If you check out the no game no life opening it has a similar thing with the piano and fast paced drums being the siblings in anime. It kinda matches to how they are in the anime with Sora doing most of most of the heavy lifting (drums) and Shiro doing the complicated stuff (piano). At least, that's how I like to think about it.

It's about time that music in anime is being talked about in a grander scale in the anime community. It's super-important to the timbre of the atmosphere of the show you're watching, and if there's no music, it mostly gives you less stimulation to keep watching the show.

And when to use silence as well. Like Gigguk mentions in the naruto part stopping the "I win" music is really powerful. In a film called "no country for old men" 2007, there is no music at all. And it's absolutely perfect for making the whole thing really tense. There's no stupid loud piano or guitar to give away a big threat coming on to the main character. How to use silence is just as important.

One anime that I think nailed its music is Jojo’s Bizarre adventure specifically the music tracks for the Jojo’s and the villains fitting pretty perfectly with their associated character for instance Johnathans theme is a big orchestra showing off his honourable nature, Josephs theme being a big techo rap showing his quick thinking and trickster character, Jotaros theme showing off his bass ass personality and powerful stand, Josukes theme constantly build in up kind of relating to his Crazy Diamond ability to fix stuff, Giornos theme showing off his determined personality and having a way of letting everyone know he won with the piano part and this even extends to the villains with DIOs theme showing off his evil nature perfectly, Diavolos theme being very mysterious relating to his unknown past, Kiras theme being normal yet unsettling, awaken my masters and avalon being absolutely fantastic I could go on forever

Music can truly set any mood at any time. And paired with beautiful animation? Ugh. Amazing how you mentioned some of my favorite ones. Samurai Champloo was my first. It fit the anime so perfectly, and woulda thought lofi hip hop would pair so well with anime? Naruto's gives me nostalgia and fuzzy feeling like no other one has so far. Bebop was the smoothest. AOT's is Hanz Zimmer level epic. Terror in Resonance's was depressingly beautiful. And Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju's OP is mesmerizing. What a great time to be alive!

Although I haven’t watched anohana (I’m planning to watch it as soon as I can don’t worry) the way people react to it is pretty much the same, in my opinion, to how people react to the ur lie in April op (if they’ve watched it, which I have). I can’t help but form a tear in my eye whenever I listen to it, which is why I’m gonna watch anohana, so I can cry whenever I hear the op because of how good the execution was. That, in my opinion, is why I love watching sad anime. Some are so beautiful that it’s worth crying for.

I think an interesting counter-example is Sora No Woto. While music is a central theme in the show, it’s never over the top. The music is just part of the background/setting, except for a few very notable scenes. I feel it really adds to the feel of the show.
