that drumset sfx patch setup is the coolest thing ive seen in pit in a while (if not the roto toms from the marimbas)

That bass 5 tho.... HE GOT MOVES. Front ensemble going crazy too.

I like that the space in the front ensemble book is actually musical and aesthetically intentional. Not just room for ramming.

Such a musical experience. Most of these clips garner only a few seconds of my attention, but this one drew me in and I just had to see what was next. Admittedly an old school dude who marched Spirit in 1980 under Tom Float, so my leanings are of the loud and louder nature, but this was really a well thought out program with so many musical moments and chop moments to balance out the esoteric. I am a new fan of MCM. Thanks for sharing.

One of the most visually captivating shows of 2023, Minimal Props , love seeing these complex movements done so well!

When I was in Dayton my school had just gotten done with our semi finals performance and then a few hours after watching some other groups in our class we found out we didn’t make finals. But then our director make it up to us by taking us to see some PIW performances and then I saw this and my day was a lot better. (Sorry for the run on sentences lmao)

I was a WGI volunteer and got to see the show for both prelims and finals - once on the arena floor and finals from the staff box. Absolutely love the creative use of audio manipulation and extended mallet techniques in the pit!

you probably watched my group in prelims as well, we were in the same round as MCM (i think we were 2 before them). i was in Stryke Percussion, we had the alice in wonderland with the electric chair🤣

Just jumping back in to watching some shows from this year. Loved both RCC and Rhythm X but was SURE this placed above them… WOW I guess I’m off or something.. the execution of this concept is impeccable!

I was excited for them to medal. I love this show and wanted to see it go far. I don’t understand the placements this season. And rhythm x…. That doesn’t make sense to me.

You don't have to understand a show to enjoy the show. The show is literally called "Unspoken" because it's meant to be mostly secretive in it's theme. Most of the theme itself is driven by motifs that the battery plays and what the visual ensemble does in relation to what they play.

I hate to say it, but they played pretty poorly. At least at finals. They killed it in the lot but the finals run was not good.

This was different. It wasn’t the same formula everybody seems to be using of a soft vocal carrying the theme. Shame it wasn’t rewarded for it

I really wish that they had a better run for finals because i was hoping Mystique would be 4th or something. Good on Infinity for slaying but i was a little bummed out

I think it’s also about neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to repair and rewire itself to form new ideas. I think that might be why they say copy of a copy so many times as that’s kind of like the neurons replicating themselves. Such an amazing show design if you view it from that lens.

definitely has multiple interpretations. Mine was that the show is about how, year to year, Mysitque as an entity molds itself and its members to fit their show. How mystique is liquid and ever changing, producing members who are copies of one another.

Shoot when I marched Gateway in 2011 we wore them and in college in 2011-2013. I think they come with Pearl carriers

I'm sure they used them to help with the control of all of the different body facings they used. Rewatch the video and noticed how little they just face forward and march for an extended period of time. They are constantly turning and facing different angles and while they are some of the best in the game at what they do they saw probably saw an opportunity to make it just a little bit easier to achieve with the belts and took it. Also, the fact they did not remove drums at all during the show means they don't have to unbuckle and re-buckle them throughout the show which is a big reason a lot of groups stopped using them.

@@brandonbrownmusic4544 Appreciate it, definitely makes a lot more sense after rewatching tbh. Seems like this show has a larger physical demand with all of the turning that really fits the theme of fluidity, coupled with the fact that they didn't have a reason to take off their drums like you mentioned.

Does anyone know what shoes they're wearing? Those are sick.

judges went insane this weekend... one judge had X 8th in music comp... its ridiculous. tbh MCM didnt play clean enough during finals, but the level of book and body has to be considered. RCC almost won and had someone fall during their show, thats unacceptable

We as a community get caught up on the dehumanization of members and only see cogs in a machine but, you’re talking about an actual person, please consider how they feel. The satisfaction of aging out on an amazing run was robbed from her. If you didn’t do this activity at the elite level, I’m sorry to say but you just don’t get it bro. TLDR: L take
