Erin Patterson, mother of two is charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with deaths linked to lunch served at her home. An Australian woman accused of poisoning her in-laws with deadly mushrooms at a family lunch has been charged with murder and attempted murder. Erin Patterson, 49, appeared in court briefly on Thursday charged with three counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder - three of which relate to her husband, court documents say.
The Behavior Panel comprises the world's top body language and behavior experts: Scott Rouse, Mark Bowden, Chase Hughes, and Greg Hartley. They analyze behavior and body language in videos of public interest. This non-partisan group aims to educate and entertain, focusing on nonverbal communication, deception detection, behavioral analysis, statement analysis, interrogation, and resistance to interrogation. Through careful examination of gestures, expressions, linguistics, and cultural context, they reveal truths and deceptions. The Behavior Panel is prominently featured on The Dr. Phil Show and has its own show on the US TV Network, Merit Street Media.

I’m in New Zealand, they arrested her for organising another lunch lol she’s like Hannibal Lector.. she has hidden devices across her property and tried to kill her husband 4 times prior to the event. She’s being done for 3 murder charges and 5 attempted murder charges. Police have asked for 20 weeks to assess all her devices. She’s not got any bail.

The police have now charged her with attempting to murder her ex-husband FOUR TIMES! He spent a long time in an induced coma in hospital last year, along with other "mystery" illnesses. And he was scheduled to attend the deadly meal too but had to cancel at the last moment.

News reports were that she didn't actually make a traditional Beef Wellington, but a Beef Wellington pie, which is a lot easier, as you don't make the duxelle (i.e. not so much a labour of love). That may make more sense because she said she "scrapped the mushrooms off" because her children didn't like mushrooms (when she purportedly gave her children the leftovers the following day). One of the major giveaways to me personally, was when she stated (twice) "I loved them" (past tense). As anyone knows when you lose someone you love, you don't stop loving them just because they are dead. "I love them" would have been more appropriate to me. The whole interview was a trainwreck. There were so many markers, as you discussed. Blind Freddy would have picked them up. I'm quite sure the Australian Police saw all the red flags a mile away. My hat off to the Aussie cops who managed to get a case together in such a short time frame. I'll bet she got a shock when they rocked up to her house to arrest her.

Seeing her fake cry made me think of another case that I would LOVE to see you guys analyze! Justin Ross Harris, a dad who left his 2 year old in his car seat, went to work....even got back into his car and went to lunch! Then went back to work for the rest of the day and claimed it was ALL an accident. His interrogation looks like some bizarre improv comedy act. The panel explains well and specifically the differences between real crying and the faking going on by Patterson. Her wobbly vocal gymnastics are really off-putting. I don't often immediately dislike people, yet this was the case when I first witnessed her.

Gentlemen, I love the way you formatted the show today. Showing the whole clip with everybody taking a turn with no video demonstrating what you’re talking about, and then showing the clip again takes a lot of time. Doing it the way you did were each of you show the parts you like about a particular clip With only one of you in the frame makes a lot of sense. It’s way more educational to be watching the clip with one of you in the corner than to be watching three of you listening to the fourth person. Whoever thought of this, well done! I hope you adopt this as your new format moving forward……so good!

If she was not guilty, but the deaths were caused by the dinner she made, she’d show guilt, as she wouldn’t be afraid to show it- Even an innocent person would feel TONS of guilt just due to the fact that they made the dinner that caused this, even when they didn’t purposely do it- that would be devastating to know that the dinner you made caused such harm! If that happened to me, I would NOT be at home or going shopping, I’d be at the hospital or doing whatever I could for the people & their families, or, I’d feel so guilty that I’d be a patient in the hospital too. Also, being that she’s a mushroom expert, along with showing guilty feelings (which would make her feel EXTRA guilty for understanding mushrooms so well), IF she was innocent, she’d likely be going on & on about WHAT might’ve caused the illness & deaths. She be going over & over facts about the mushrooms she used, WHY they should’ve been safe, in GREAT DETAIL.

It makes me wonder if she only intended to kill the ex-husband (especially since they are saying she had tried to poison him 3 other times!) and had just put the death-cap mushrooms in one end of the Beef Wellington but maybe they, or their toxins, spread throughout the whole thing during cooking. If she thought she could control which part she gave to him and then have everyone else alive to testify that they had eaten the same meal, she may have thought that it would seem like a rogue mushroom got in the mix or something.

I really like the format with an inset of you explaining your observations while we can watch the subject at the same time. So much easier than trying to recall your comments during a replay. Great job, guys!

I saw what you saw in her interview, especially the evasive answering, and the odd, fake, crying (just like a kid that has exhausted their believability and they're now crying for the attention). I was so glad to hear that they were able to build up enough of a case against her to arrest her. Every bit of this interview is suspect. You guys nailed it. (She is also being charged with some unrelated attempts of murder. Unsurprising, as her ex-husband has come forward with stories of becoming ill from her food in the past- Im not sure of those are the source of the charges, but it seems this is a reoccurring thing for her. Crazy!)

She's been charged with the attempted murder of her ex-husband three years ago as well. The food dehydrator that she threw away doesn't do her any favours either.

When I first knew about this case, I heard it on the radio & thought "she sounds really upset, surely she didn't do this." Next time, I actually saw the footage & the weird crying bout waved red flags at me, so I made a request to the Behaviour Panel 😅 as I was so impressed by you guys when you looked at Cleo Smith's parents prior to her rescue.

As an Australian, and from the mushroom woman's home state of Victoria, this story lives rent-free in my head. It is awful that people died. Beef Wellington is a delicious dinner, and it really is for special occasions. You basically need a whole beef fillet, which can be about $40 per kilo or more here. Cook mushrooms and spring onions together in a pan to get the juices out. Cook the beef in a pan to sear the edges (or go sous vide if you're fancy) and then let it cool. To assemble, get a sheet of puff pastry (premade is fine, let's not go overboard!) spread pate onto the base of the pastry, lay the fillet over it, add mushrooms and spring onions. Roll it all together and seal the edges with a fork. Brush the top with melted butter. Then cook it around 180c in a fan force oven for about 30 minutes. Mushrooms from the supermarket are perfectly safe.

In this case, when you think about yourself in this situation (if you were innocent), and how you’d respond to these reporters or how you’d be feeling & what you’d be thinking & doing, it makes it very clear.

Oh thank you so much for doing this video on the Mushroom Woman Erin Patterson, I live in Sydney Australia so I will be hanging out for more videos on her as the case gets under way. Love you all for your work and hope that you get to 1 Million Subscribers, that would be nice to see. I think your analysis on her is spot on indeed. If you cannot look someone in the eye, that is a giant red flag for me. Keep doing what you are doing.

It's a duxelles. A mash of mushrooms and onions. It is something you do to show off or if you are still in the 80's but also, it's a great place to hide mushrooms while also showing off. If you ate it you might not immediately register that you were eating mushrooms. That might go with a particular type of person.

and I think she is just so self-absorbed, and dived into her ego, that she didnt even take the time, or effort to rehearse anything. She thought she could get away with a fake cry, and shoulder shrugs. 'Im devastated' on loop. that is all she knows.
