@@kricku yeah it was kinda like art history going through different eras of art around the world starting with ancient art going up to modern art, it was actually really interesting and my favorite class
The exhibition „Van Gogh in Arles“ touched exactly on his last years, including his last paintings and death! It’s a shame Connor couldn’t see it, that would’ve made him like the Museum :/ Van Gogh is such a good artist though, like, his masterful way of using colours to depict landscapes, especially with his signature swirls. The fact that he could paint so beautifully, despite his severe mental illnesses, is a testament to the Genius that are his paintings. You can truly feel what Van Gogh’s emotions were, when he painted. He stands at the top of Impressionist/Post Impressionist Artists, with Monet and Renoir. I can understand Connor saying he personally doesn’t like his Artstyle, but saying it is overrated is an overstatement for sure. In his lifetime, Van Gogh wasn’t popular in the slightest, often times selling his paintings for dirt cheap or giving them away for free. Nowadays, his paintings go for millions and have altered the entire landscape of paintings. There’s a clear cut between pre-Van Gogh and post-Van Gogh. Either way, please do not forget that art is subjective and completely to one’s personal likenesses. As such, I personally find Van Gogh to be one of the most brilliant painters to have ever graced this earth, but alas, who am I to say. If you have the time though, I do recommend the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, as it has the biggest collection of his original paintings in the world!
The reason it doesnt say he killed himself is that there is a dispute about it and many other different theories.
Herod would be the instigator of the painting Connor is talking about
A cool channel is Great Art Explained. Gives a lot of context for classic art pieces
Completely Random fact in The episode "The Muse " of the show Grimm the reason Van Gogh cut off his own ear was because he fell in love with essentially an art siren. ( Season 2 episode 20)
