Hi everyone,
Introducing my new MUSEUM CAREERS 101 series, where in each video I break down an element of the museum world to help understand entering the field. In this video, I introduce the various types of museums and break down how a small historic museum differs from The Met for employees, etc.
Enjoy!

Hi Chloe, this video is awesome. I'm going to graduate in History from Bangladesh. We don’t have any opportunity in our country. I am not still sure about my interest in certain field. Thanks btw!
This may sound like a dumb question, but how to did you decide on your specialization and how does one add that to a degree? I'm debating going back to school and changing by major from art to art history and this has helped me so much!

Not a dumb question at all! I had the same thoughts. From doing informational interviews, I noticed that it helped to have a focus. I just started tracking what I was gravitating to. I always had an interest in Egyptian art and then art education as well. I was lucky that at my school there were lots of classes in all areas. To "add" a specialization, I just focused the classes I took to Egyptian art & archeology. Depending on what you want to study, it may mean adding a double major or minor. For instance, I added Egyptology as a major in addition to art history. Feel free to email me at chloe@chloelandis.com if you want to chat more.
I have a BA in Studio Art, I’m interested in modern and earlier art such as rococo and Renaissance. There are a few museums I’m looking into but unsure if I need an art history degree (I don’t really want to restart college but willing to take classes) thank you for the video!

Hello! I’m looking to an entire career change as I edge on my 30’s. I recently visited the Louvre and fell in love with the museum culture and the idea of being a person within this world. I’m very confused as to where to start, what degrees and schooling I’d need, the process moving forward. I know where I’d like to focus my learning (I adore Ancient Greece and all Greek Mythology), but I don’t know how to smoosh my passion for Greek Mythology and Museum work into a career. Would you be willing to guide me a little? 😅 I feel stupid for asking but… well the worlds become a little insane right now, and career changes mid life seem to be in fashion. Would love to hear from you!

I want to work in art gallery...which course i should do? And which book i whould read to get knowledge?
thankyou sososo much'!!!
Hi Chloe! I loved this video. I haven’t finished my degree yet (business management) and im considering changing it. I love history and archaeology. I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to work in a museum, but I don’t know where to start or where I can pull more information. Do you have any resources I could look at to see what I gravitate more towards?

I don’t know if this is dumb, but is it appropriate to call a museum and just tell them you’re interested in a specific area and you want to talk to someone in that field?

@@shelbylynn6082 Here's how I would handle it. I'd look up staff members on Linkedin and get a feel for responsibilities, etc. Sometimes you can find this by searching the company and looking at employees. Another thing you could do is look at the website and find an employee list. Ask individuals for an informational interview. State what point you are in exploring and what to learn about what they do. Ask if they have 30 min of their time to either call, zoom, or meet for coffee, depending on where you are. Showing you've done a little research always helps a little too
Very interesting video :-)
I graduated in History, we don't have graduation in Museology in my country and I plan to do masters in Museology ,so I am curious what subject I can study after it (( I love Egyptian history and any type of old jewellery, clothes and mythology )) ??

I am guessing you are from India(I am from Kolkata,India). I did my Bachelor's and Master's in History and now I wanna do another Masters in museology. There is one college in Delhi, Indian Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology.Thinking of applying and hoping to get in. You could look into that. But if you are interested solely in Egyptian history you need to look into colleges abroad.

Hi Chloe ! I’m thinking of swiping my major from graphic design to art history. I do see myself having a career in a museum. I want to ask a question but not sure if it’s too personal. I see the median for a museum curator in California is roughly $55k - year…my major worry (gives me major anxiety) is I guess not earning a livable wage….I want to ask how or what advice you would suggest to this matter ? Living expenses are increasing so that really scares me… 😟
