During Knight's of Cydonia, Matt was using a guitar with an "experimental" tremolo system (a brand new type of floyd). It reset and pushed everything flat and out of tune

Dustin Balog yeah, but if the guitar is wildly out of tune no matter how good you are, it's gonna sound shit. I have Absolute pitch, and even I couldn't help if a guitar was out of whack, particularly if it's a Floyd Rose vibrato (which you can't just re-tune on the fly). I also know that those guitars (he had two with the new Floyds on them) were returned very soon into the tour to be modified with standard vibrato's fitted

Yeah, no. You don't. It's got frets: if a string breaks, or the tremolo decides for what ever reason that the balance point isn't perfectly in tune, you're royally fucked with the majority of tremolos. You could get REALLY lucky, and the guitar could go a few semitones out, but it only takes 10 or 15 cents out of tune and it's game over. EVERY fret is out of tune, that's how a guitar works. There's no compensating like a fretless instrument. Not that you can't solider on anyway Hendrix style, but you do have to remember that while Strat isn't as good at staying in tune after using the tremolo, it's more sturdy and less finely balanced.

tbh, a few of these were just technical failures, not really the bands' fault

I got a backstage pass at a Muse gig back in 2001 in Manchester, England. The 1st 10 ppl on either side of the front row got one and I was the 9th person from the left. Matt Bellamy was too wasted to come backstage tho, it was just the other 2 there unfortunately, their names slip me, Dom and Something or other. I got into Tool not long after that gig and now think Muse are totally shit obviously, but I still went backstage there, haha. Jealous much?
