Apparently Micro Cuts was changed drastically along with the already released Megalomania and I absolutely can’t wait for the entire thing!

We had no idea how much we needed this remix, refined to near perfection

Actually, nothing was re-recorded. Everything used in the remix was an original recording. Some of these were takes never used in the original mix of the album and some were just buried in the original mix (like the strings), but nothing was recorded again. Rich Coste, who helped Muse produce this remix, confirmed this on Twitter.

They are doing the whole album, out on June 18th!! I’m guessing they changed a lot for Micro Cuts too (according to producer) and changed the transition hence no more phasing?? but we’ll see

@@raflystiansahlatif5293 they said plug in baby was really hard to remix since it's already really good (their words not mine). So plug in baby will mostly have the least changes out of all of them

I have to say this is such a cool concept for an anniversary album, rebuilding each song from the ground up, such a great idea. Also I believe that they are remixing the whole album and I am so intrigued to hear what they’ve done to the intro of Microcuts given that the linking synth between it and Citizen Erased has been completely toned down.

The remixes are TOO GOOD

Even though the new megalomania mix is so much better, it's kinda sad that the organ at the end doesn't hit as much as the original :/

@@jonahlouque9621 Tbh I'm OK with the new mix on the organ. It took me a second to get used to it, but the bass not being so high on "off your" makes it a lot more impactful when he plays the bass notes under "disguise". It's a different approach for sure, but I'm digging it now

Matt said he wanted the organ to really be showcased in the new mix, which is why it's more prominent throughout and why it's the standalone instrument in the final seconds. I do kind of miss the drum roll at the very end, though. That was one of the cool aspects from the original I wish they had kept in.

I'm just quietly sitting through your megalomania reaction waiting for that first chorus to hit - that bass can not be denied. It's so prominent here. You reacted exactly like I did. I was jaw dropped banging my head at that bass.

My fav part was the interesting sound at the end of Citizen Erased but it was removed :( I still keep hearing it tho in the remiXX

I just love your Muse reactions. So good to see someone who loves them just as much as I do.

I’m honestly glad to hear how clear the verses are in Megalomania. The original was always my favorite song off the album, but my ONE issue was that I thought the dynamic change between the chorus and verses was a bit too loud. I loved how consistent it all sounded and how crisp everything was. Now I can easily cement this as my favorite OoS song! Oh and citizen erased was great too. Muse was catering to me remixing my two favorites first!!

Nothing is re-recording. Everything was already recorded for OOS. They only changed the mixing.

I believe the rich, fat bass you commented on in “Megalomania” is the powerful bass pedals of the organ itself; a fantastic sound.

That phasing sound is there in the original mix solely for the purpose of transitioning to micro cuts. If they're getting rid of it now is to preserve their original vision for each individual track. So that phasing sound will no longer be on micro cuts too, the whole album used to have seamless transitions between tracks and it looks now most of those transitions will be removed.

Megalomania is amazing... its a fantastic tune and they remixed it very well. The only thing i would say, and again this is a very minor detail a lot probably don't care about. But the 'snare' sound in the original verses had this bell type effect that is introduced with something that sounds like chains. They completely got rid if it here and I loved it. It really made the whole verse sound medieval, i guess they went for a more theatrical feel for the XX aniversary.

I love these remix, they're more raw like live songs 🤩

I can't wait until Friday to check out the whole album. I also hope that the do the same sort of remaster for Absolution in a few years!

Apparently Micro Cuts has been remastered to highlight a harpsichord. One of the only times I will actually willingly listen to that song

Am I the only one who misses the organ chords that play during the calm mellow verse in the original Citizen Erased? "And the truth's unwinding scraping away" I hear organ chords that resemble the intro synth chords of Resistance in the original version of Citizen Erased. That's my one complaint with the remix

The entire album has been remastered! Are you going to do a reaction to it? I really want to see hear your thoughts on some of the songs - some have been totally beautifully redone. Space Dementia's second verse - well, I won't spoil it, but it's awesome. Hyper Music is way crunchier. Micro Cuts is downright menacing now in a way the original never was, and Futurism has been totally revolutionised in the best way. It's really reallly really good

Imagine Plug in baby oh my fucking god

After listening to the whole release on Spotify, some of the great little quircks of that album ARE MISSING... The panning guitar slide at the end of Micro Cuts... RIP. Also, as you noted, the phasing transition into Micro Cuts from CE. My theory is that on vinyl copies, these lost effects may be preserved. I say this because on certain ocasions, artists mix their albums quite differently for Vinyl. This can be heard in many Radiohead pressings (from XL Recordings - not the old Parlophone ones); Another strong example is The Black Keys Turn Blue Album, where the track 10 Lovers is extendd by 12 instrumental bars and a whole extra chorus. I think it's a way for artists to show their thanks to their fans who buy vinyl copies. The Irony is that my girlfriend just bought me the original Origin of Symmetry pressing for my birthday in June, just as I was looking at ordering the Remix.

@@johnbeaker8721 Well to clarify, I think the album sounds pretty good on headphones, but with a decent hi-fi system it sounds quite narrow and mushy Ive found this is the case with most stuff from the 90s-early 00s

Yeah the old ones don’t cut it anymore for me now that we have these remastered versions.

They better improve the guitar solo of New Born a bit. Also get ready for Space Dementia and Hyper Music!

Since you like QOTSA you should definitely check out Them Crooked Vultures, it’s got Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones and it’s a really solid band

I already suggested it once, but I'll suggest it again. The album Deadwing by Porcupine Tree. Trust me, it'll be right up your alley.

KScope erroneously released the 2018 master to Deadwing (used on the vinyl reissue that year) to their bandcamp... only to realize they goofed and put back the brickwalled 2005 mix...

My wife can't hear any difference and I'm like are you kidding me!
