Musashi Hand forged 1060 carbon steel Katana (real hamon)

This is a review of the Musashi silver series 1060 carbon steel Katana
• 40 1/2" Hand Forged Katana
• 1060 High Carbon Steel Full Tang Blade
• Maru Gata Iron Tsuba
• Brass Fuchi and Kashira
• Maru Kitae Forging Method
Gunome style hamon pattern. The maru gata style iron tsuba is the traditional double ring used by the famous Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. A unique feature is the integrated Bo-Hi on the blade. The purpose of the Bo-Hi is to help reduce the weight of the katana benefiting some advance cutting techniques that requires the katana to change direction rapidly.

Family member has one of these. I was looking at it in detail Musashi himself could have done some serious damage with this 1060 Steel. Oh great moves there backyard Samurai excellent video. 👍

Thanks for doing this demo. I've got the Ryujin 1060 Carbon Steel - Hatamoto Series and have not seen hardly any reviews on this series. While it's not a high end sword i think its amazing for the price. And am blessed to be able to have such a fine piece of equipment.

Still probably the best deal on a clay-tempered cutter, assuming you can find one! Great video!

So I recently purchased this same Katana and I haven't trained in a few decades . What I received was amazing at the price point ! I have many blades in my collection and this one is something special in that I didn't expect much .....and my wife wanted a troublesome bush removed so I thought what the hell ......I'm going to have some fun with my Hundred dollar toy. It made quick work but unfortunately on the last swing it went right through the base and hit a huge rock just under the surface . I thought for sure the blade was ruined . To my surprise it only had a tiny little chip that I was able to make all but disappear with a decent whetstone ! This thing came reasonably sharp and is capable of holding a razor edge. Tough blade for the money and by all rights mine should have shattered as hard as I was swinging when I hit the rock ! If your on the fence about getting this katana .......I've seen $200-$300 katana's that where definitely no better than this one and maybe not as good !

Awesome story! Just bought one of these to eviscerate pumpkins on Thanksgiving (family tradition). Sounds like it should be up to the task.

Family member bought one cheap about 10 years ago now but this thing is a serious weapon in my opinion. Not for landscaping but I can see this thing cutting body parts off. Musashi would have been proud.

@@cjgilm For sure. Be careful though.....every blade is different no matter what the manufacturer says. By all rights my blade should have at the very least broken at the point of impact. I'm well over 240lbs and I can swing pretty hard and fast. It's now it's on my wall behind my headboard. I have complete confidence that this is very much a lethal weapon and should be treated as such. It comes with a reasonably sharp edge on it .

@@Phantom096 It's for sure the best under $200 dollar katana I've ever had and I only paid around $109 delivered to my door. I've had katanas that cost more and weren't anywhere near as decent as this one.

Can anyone answer this. My sword near the tip has a deep sharp edge. The rest of the blade is a very fine edge that whole sharp not really even visible, is this the way kantans supposed to be?

I was thinking of buying this same sword, but does the blade wiggle when your swing it?

No mine was tight, but the tsuba (crossguard) will start to wiggle after heavy use.

Would you rather have this 1060 steel sword? Or t-10 or tool steel sword?

  • @theweaponscollectiveedge863

    @theweaponscollectiveedge863

I think the 1060 steel would be cheaper in price than the tool steel. T10 also could have problems if the heat treat was done incorrectly. I have swords in both types of steel and if I destructive tested them I would believe the 1060 would be more durable where the t10 would hold an edge longer if both were heat treated correctly. 1060 would most likely have a lower hrc of 58 and be less brittle.
