Murillo's Painting Technique Demo

During the Mid 17th century Murillo created a rich new style that transformed late Baroque painting in southern Spain. In this video, I explore Murillo's painting techniques using historical materials and the build-up of impasto layers to create a sense of luminosity while copying his famous masterpiece "The Virgin of the Rosary".

solo tengo una pregunta. ¿como la luz del lugar y la hora a la que se pintaba afectava el color? lo haría mas frio o mas tibio ( azuloso o amarillos) . hoy dia usamos bombillas y controlamos el tono que queremos. pero ellos utilizarían velas, antorchas, o pintarian solo a sierta hora del dia... gracias!

Doesn't this technique go against the fat over lean rule? When you saw his paintings in Spain, where they heavily cracked?

Hello Jason: Murillo as well as other artists from this period employed chalk or other fillers in the first layers to keep the paint lean. I did not observe heavy cracking in Murillo’s works.

Good video but spoiled by the inappropriate music competing with the voice-over for dominance . Such a pity as Mr Borrero works hard to do artists a great service. Thank you Sir.
