Jessica Fletcher also used Med Alert in one of the episodes call "Crossed Up". It was was interesting to see the product's growth because at the time, it was so foreign that only doctors knew what it was and Med Alert only had a range of two miles. There's also the episode "A Virtual Murder" which featured types of virtual gaming that are still not yet widespread today.

You are correct. Sony actually did have 1080i back 80 and HD vhs existed in the late 80 and early 90s. It was rare and really expensive. But you can find clips of it on youtube and it looks better than normal compressed broadcast tv today. They though it would take off in the mind to late 90s. But it ended up taking 20 years longer then that until the last 2000s.

Yeah, the Japanese invented HDTV all the way back in the 50’s. It is somewhat surprising that the writers of Murder She Wrote knew about it.

I saw a huge (for the time) 40” rear projection HDTV set from NEC at the 1986 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It was stunning. This was based on Japan’s analog 1080i HDTV standard, which they were trying to bring to America. The FCC dicked around for well over a decade before bringing digital HDTV to America. We could have had it by the early ‘90s.

Yeah well, there are still car regulations that were set back in the 1940s. Regulatory bodies in America are ALWAYS decades behind everyone else.

Who cares? It was and is over hyped. Non-HDTV was quite fine to watch. People act like HDTV was a cure for cancer.
