I had high hopes for this, especially because I can see the mountain Piz Mundaun from my bedroom and the game is dubbed in my area's dialect of Romontsch. I guess no other game will ever be as close to home. So I'm getting this anyway.

I'm also a native romantsch speaker but I speak a different dialect (vallader). I sometimes struggle to understand the dialog in this game without any subtitles. It's like comparing southern American english with an Irish accent. Nevertheless it feels incredibly special to have a game on all platforms in your native tongue that you thought wasn't relevant outside this region.

@@dadonem I have the exact same issue trying to understand Putèr and Vallader. Sometimes I think it would be good to do some sort of immersion learning and live in another dialect region for some months to get more acquainted with the differences. Just watching Telesguard doesn't cut it 😁 Anyway, YT gaming comments were the last place I expected to meet someone else from the area, so hi! 🙃

It does feel like a game that may benefit more if it didnt have the horror theme put on it. From the footage it feels more like a darker surreall tale you may see from someone like David Lynch. Not sure its my thing but keep on bringing attention to these gems 3 minutes.

I watched their stream yesterday and actually, the art style reinforces the overall creepiness. Plus, as KC and Jesse were approaching the two-hour mark, the atmosphere and story got quite intriguing. As a viewer, I think the horror theme works well with the art style and the setting. I may be wrong, though

But that's what it is. It's a survival horror that thrives on atmosphere. Don't let current expectations of what the genre is supposed to be fool you: David Lynch (a main source of inspiration for the game BTW) is also a 100% a horror director.

@@Cavirex David Lynch definitely seems to be an aesthetic ideal that this game is going for (specifically Eraserhead and The Elephant Man), with maybe a bit of influence from early From Software games on the PS1. When the reviewer criticised the fact that the protagonist didn't seem phased by what was going on a lot of the time that just seemed like the sort of thing that would have fit perfectly in line with the artistic influences I was inferring through the design. The thing with this approach to horror is that it's not as effective if the player takes events at face value or assumes that the characters should behave rationally (I know that sounds like a cop out but what I mean is that beyond the aesthetic spectacle there may be an added layer of symbolism that helps better portray the perspective of the protagonist and their internal psychology. If the player doesn't connect with that they won't have a particularly deep experience though that's not to say that the game stands up to that kind of analysis as I haven't played it so can't comment on its quality beyond what I've seen in this video)

This game's concept and style grabbed me. But it really didnt do that much with it. It simply could not graduate into horror. If anything it was kinda boring and even chore like. I'll think about it more but I can't say I'd recommend it at the moment.

I'm still playing it through (I play for about an hour per evening to savour it) and while I'll reserve full judgment after completion, I can say that, despite a few game breaking bugs which are currently being fixed by the dev (one crash and one which forced me to reload and replay the last ten minutes) and some minor gripes with the interface, I have to say that so far it's my favourite horror in ages. It doesn't feel the need to try and scare you, instead it relies on atmosphere and exploration to set the mood. Love the aesthetic to bits (the videos don't do justice to the hand drawn textures).

Torn on this game...it really draws a sharp distinction between stylish and atmospheric yet horribly clunky and amateurish. Parts are well drawn, others do look like a bad 3d polygon game from the 90s. When you finally meet live characters I'm left with an "are you serious" feeling. The voices were in a European language I had to look up because it sounded German at times and Russian at others, and has English subs. It's not well voice acted, but could have been worse. At one point, when monsters start attacking I considered returning it since I couldn't figure out what was hitting me. When I did see something that looked like a walking scarecrow I poked it with my pitchfork and it fell over in a few hits, which was good because the combat is stiff and awkward. I died anyway.
