Mum Tries To Make A Game In Scratch

Ойын-сауық

Ever wanted to try out coding but, without actually... typing code? Well Scratch is a fantastic tool for kids and game making beginners who wanna just jump into creation with simple puzzle-like drag and drop based tools rather than learning a text-based programming language.

You can actually make a really complex operating system on Scratch going so far as to add communication with an outside server with cloud variables. Granted you can only send like a few kilobytes per second in total but still it's amazing.

The thing about typing out code is that it's more efficient once you get the hang of it. Although, drag-and-drop coding is more useful if you're on a touch-enabled device and you want to code on the go. (tablet keyboards seem really awkward to code with)

U can't make a os in a program like scratch because the definition of an os is that it starts by itself when the computer is turned on without external code to do so. A os can be as simple as a text saying "hello world" as long as it automaticly starts when you turn on the device and therefore you have to program in assembly or machine code if I'm not mistaking. Btw i know this bcz my friend made an os that said "hello world" :).

I use Scratch as a tutor as an introduction to coding. If you want to go a little step further, instead of GameMaker, give Stencyl a try. It has the same style with coding in blocks, but it is much, much more versatile than that. And it's free and open source. Google "stencyl tower defence wip", follow the tutorial and you'll see what I mean. :)
