Multi Million Dollar Supercharged Duesenberg Ride Along At The Gilmore Museum
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How else would we end our visit to The Gilmore Museum but with a ride along in a 1935 Duesenberg SJN. This particular Duesenberg is the only 1935 that was factory supercharged, and 1 of 4 in this particular Rollston body style. This car was owned by the same family for 6 decades before it was purchased with the low odometer reading of 15,000 miles. This Duesenberg has never been fully restored, only sympathetically refurbished, keeping almost all of its original features intact. This beauty looks just as good sitting still as it does going down the road!!!

Probably the only chance many of us will ever have to ride in a Duesy - thanks for taking us along !

J Leno has 3-4 in depth videos with (a few different) models of Dusenbergs at that. As well as a video of a Cord as well. I always assume most car ppl kno of J’s videos but just in case 😇😉 “Jay Leno’s Garage”
Jay Leno proclaims Duesenberg as one of his favorite builders of all time..how can you not agree looking at these beautiful examples of perfection..

Right cause that car is a piece of art. When they built cars back then, they were built to last and built to perfection. No money was spared when building Duesenbergs. At least when you got into a accident the car pretty much stayed in 1 piece unless you were driving really fast then you would destroy the other car and your car. I know there is a Duesenberg that is worth millions of dollars but its not this one. The one I saw was was either Midnight Blue or Black and it wasn't a convertible.

Btw you just got the chassis, you had to go to a coach builder for the body

The company that owns them is down the street from my office
Correction: The Duesenberg straight-eight in the Model J was 420 cubic inches (video says 320). Otherwise, great video! Thanks for letting us take a ride we would otherwise never have the opportunity for.

Did you also catch he called it a Cabriolet top! But, I am not a Duisenberg specialist like he is and maybe like my Model A the roll up windows defines it as a Cabriolet, possibly Cabriolet disappearing top? IDK but I thought the disappearing top put it in a special genre all it’s own. I think only 25 Murphy bodied DTs convertible coupes were made.
Wow, one of the coolest cars ever built. Love the fact that they are actually driving it.
That car is a rolling art sculpture and the uncorked exhaust plays a beautiful symphony!
I never understood what the expression " Grinning Ear To Ear " meant until watching this video. Watching Matt grinning from ear to ear in shear delight was really emotional for me. I was taken back to those early years of my life before I was a licensed driver myself, and would badger compliant adults to take me for a ride in their automobile, the louder and more decrepid the better I don't think I have been that excited or happy since. Thanks Matt and Mike For living out your "Hot Rod " passion and taking all of your subscribers along with you. You guys are living my dream and I thank God for your willingness to follow your dream.

any gear head getting a ride in a Duesenberg SJ or any Duesenberg will get that sme silly grin, can't help it...
Never got much better than that beauty
I bet Matt Smiled all the way Home, what a day!
The car I wished I could own all my life , since a young boy just to mention that name had me drooling, im now too old and too poor to ever own one now , but having a joyride with you Matt was just the best , I’ve never been close to one , just those awesome lines , the side pipes , the eight cylinder engine, oh so cool .thankyou Matt
WOW, WHAT A PIECE OF ART!
What a car. The cleanest looking, fastest thing imaginable in it's day, and still a stunning example of the original super car.
That thing is badass! My smile is just as big as yours is, Matt. 👍🇺🇸🤘😊
Absolutely stunning auto, you are so lucky man! Thank you for this vicarious adventure, you're a gem! Big Cheers from BC Canada!
Seeing this braught back old nostalgic childhood memories from visiting friends to my parents. They are farmers and there used to be this red 2 cylinder vintage diesel tractor that I would be allowed to take the wheel in. Straight sidecut pipe, loud exhaust noise and a whole lot of torque. Never failed to put a smile on my face, even if it rained like crazy. Much like this guy's reaction when feeling the eerie sensation of this good ol' dusie stretching its legs on the open highway like any modern car.
Love the Duesenberg! The car that many of us can only dream of getting near. 😊
That sounds so good!!!
This redefines the term "joy ride". I can see the passion, love and enjoyment you guys have for these cars on your faces. Great video!
What an awesome opportunity!
I never seen a grin so big as what Matt had on his face when he opened up the cut outs. Like a kid in a candy store. Nice old car and as always great video.
I’ll have to hit the Gilmore Museum this summer, if they’re open to the public again. I live only a couple of hours away, but never have stopped there. I have been to the ACD Museum in Auburn, IN. Another great automotive museum.

They’re open come on out!
Thanks to the Duesenberg brothers' pioneering work in perfecting the overhead camshaft design, both of my later model cars have highly efficient overhead cam 4 cylinder engines. But as a side note, I am glad neither of them have that non-synchro manual (hear the gears crunching) transmission. That alone would make the car a pain to drive with any regularity and make me glad to donate/sell it as everyone else has.
Amazing car and I'm so glad to see it actually being driven!
You lucky stiff! This is part of what all your hard work gets you. Keep it up.
Regrettably this is likely the closest I’ll ever get to a real ride in a Duesy.... but it was sweet! Thanks so much for this video. Love the cut outs.
Fantastic automobile. Glad to see people are caring for and driving these classics. Love the 'hot rod' mode.
Riding in beautiful michigan in a shiny money car. Thanks Matt for the video
Ooooooh man what an experience that duesenberg is a beast that would be a cruise to die for
Yes, a glorious American creation. Fabulous brothers, fabulous engineers.
Matt, your smile couldn’t be any bigger. I’ve visited the old Auburn plant in Auburn, Indiana and they had a couple Duesenbergs there. If memory serves me correctly, I believe on had been Clark Gables.
What a "Blast from the Past " .
Wow! That’s one of those dream- bucket list things to do. Beautiful ride even with it so gloomy out.
That's one of the cleanest Douchenburg I've seen
Couldn't wipe that smile off Matt's face with a 2x4!
Wow what a blast perciate the vid prime cut... solid gold thank you kindly ❣️
If you haven't been go to the Gillmore museum. What a car!
So far ahead of its time!
My father was born in 1913, his 3 favorite 2 cars from days gone by were the Duesenberg, the Cord, and the Tucker. Oh the stories he told and what he could tell you about the cars of yesteryear. I sure miss him.
Your smile while riding is absolutely awesome. I would be smiling too.
Absolutely a piece of fine art! ❤
Matt and Mike thank you for sharing this with me ! To see a real Duesenburg made me happy ! I know that I'll have to make a road trip up to the museum to see it and much more in person ! Take care , stay safe and healthy with whatever you guys maybe doing next ! Doing well here in Kansas .
Um correction, duesenberg straight 8s were NOT 320 cubic inches they were 420 cubic inches and the largest 8 cylinder US car engine of the day. The regular J made around 260 hp, the SJ made 320 horsepower, but the SSJ which was put on a shortened chassis had a special ramhorn intake and 2 carburetors on the supercharger instead of one giving the SSJ 400 horsepower! Bore was 3.75 inches and stroke was 4.75 inches.
Nice looking and nice sounding machine.
What a wonderful machine thanks for share with us.
I was smiling as much as you! 😊 In fact, I'm still smiling while typing this. 😊 🙃 Cheers from Australia!

Thanks for watching!
Doesn't matter which one you see, they always exude class and style. I've seen many, they're all magnificent automobiles.
The sound of the gears and whoosh of the supercharger!!heaven!!!!
It was everything before everything. It was a hot rod before hot rods. It was a coach built custom before customs. It was a supercar before supercars. 320 horsepower in the 30's? That's like carroll Shelby's supersnake having 800 horsepower in the 60's. They were on another level
🤔 One of my many model car builds,my favorite.😎
That car is absolutely stunningly beautiful. Definitely built as a piece of art as much as it's a hot rod version of an automobile. Built in an era when high end cars we actually thoght of as art. The grin on Matt's face when he switched to straight pipe was priceless. What a charmed life Matt leads.

Duesenberg= work of art
Fantastic! Mesmerizing!
Hey Matt and Mike That had to be a thrilling experience to ride in such a well build automobile. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Be Safe and Well
Leaving those dents was such a smart move... You can't notice them unless you really look and the fact that you know the story of how they got there only adds to the car's provenance. Nice work.
Wow Matt to have a ride in a real Ducinburg, what an experience.
Wow, a great ride through beautiful countryside in a perfectly performing beautiful automobile. Some people just live right. Congratulations Matt!
That sucker sounds so smooth, sort of reminds me of an old Chris Craft all wooden boat. Overhead cam 420ci straight eight with a supercharger 🤯😬😋🥲😳🤗☺️🤩😁
Fantastic!!!!!!
What a beautiful vehicle, Somebody looks happier than a kid at Christmas!
Once in a lifetime treat! Absolutely outstanding
If Mike did the filming GREAT job. Very professional
Now that you've ridden in the ultimate badass car Matt, I guess that we'll have to start calling you the "Ultimate Badass Dude"! Thanks for taking us all along with you guys to the museum. 👍
Absolute all-time favorite cars are the Duesenbergs (with Auburns and Cords close behind). Fantastic breakfast video. Thank you!
Matt, I envy you !
What a Beautiful video man best one ever, used to live in Auburn Indiana, we appreciate your time
Big, fast, and loud - the way a real car should be. Nasty, somewhat evil sounding, with a certain malevolence implied in it's un-silenced exhaust note. I love it!
When I was like 18 I got to see one of those Caddy V16s running and I have never forgotten it. That would have been my second choice.
Very cool that they drive them. What a dream job. Hard to believe some clowns have fitted a sbc or LS and mustang front suspension to these.
The sound of mechanical perfection, better than any song ever written.
Great share thank you for the ride-a-long treat.
What a bucket list day Matt! So cool.
That was fantastic. Thank you very much!!!!!
Absolutely Fantastic & Incredible!!! I Loved ❤️ Seeing This! Thank You!!!
That's a real car that's beautiful😮 if you maintain something like that it was last forever
Been to this museum many times, one of the finest in the world 👍
Oh damn! Thats a bucket list ride right there! Beautiful car!
What a cool experience. Matt you have to love your chosen career.
Matt looks like the cat that got the cream !! What a stunning piece of automotive history. Thanks for taking us along for the ride 👍👍👍😎
Awesome guys!.. Thank you.
Hey mate proud for ya. You so deserve to have been able to take that ride. Amazing it made my year just to be able to witness the pure joy in your eye lucky muvver you !! My jealous mate
Great video! Genuine smile maker, beauty that car
That is a Bucket list ride for sure!!
Love the inline straight eight sound!!!!
What a machine!
That Car is art. Matt remember that the Duesenberg brothers were racers like you. And the brothers won Indy 4 times Oh they were farm boys. Fred Duesenberg only had a 8th grade education .
The Duesy, arguably the epitomy of the iconic straight-8. Oh what a masterpiece it was !
Great Video! 👍👍👍👍👍
Matt I have heard that the model J Duesenberg were all built in 1929, when E.L Cord bought the company. They didn’t sell right away so the factory licensed them the year they sold. It was also the year the bodies were put on chassis
The smile says it all awesome car
what a beauty....
Just saw the video you did from the Gilmore Museum. When you rode in the White Duesenberg. Sounds killer. Only disappointment was he never showed the Super Charged side of the engine. Their Straight 8's were works of art. Your so lucky. Man I'm so jealous. Great video.
I can't lie these look amazing .. way better than a rolls Royce....
What an awesome car.
killer car ...t hx for sharing the fun
Like you said Matt, that's KILLER! Another AWESOME video on The Gilmore Museum. I need to go With my Packard Owning uncle! Great,Thanks Matt! Greg
