History of MULTAN - It is said that MULTAN was also called PRAHLAADPURI where Bhakat PRAHLAAD was born. It was the town where Holika died in the fire and where Raja HEERANKASHYAP got killed by Hindu God NARASIMHA. This history is not known to many Muslims. But a few intellectuals and academicians know this history. They still remember that there are very few “AVSHESH” = REMNANTS of the Sun Temple, lying outside the MULTAN city and Keshav Ji Local Multaanis call these remnants as “tibia” and we also call it as “tibias” in local Saraiki Bhasha. Even some Pakistanis of MULTAN also claim that there are some “avshesh” = remnants of some taalab = pond over the place which people call as remnants of Hindu Sun Temple.” =

Keshav Ji just a bit of History of MULTAN - its original name was MOOLASTHAN means (main place or town). Nearly 4 or 5000 years back it had a Sun Temple. There are 3 Sun Temples in the world - one was in MULTAN, second is currently in Puri, Orissa & 3rd I don’t know. Sun temple in MULTAN was treated 4/5000 years back as people treat Haridwar or Muslims treat and respect Mecca. Those days people used to come to MULTAN as far as from Iraq, Iran, Saudi to pray at that Sun temple. People used to offer gold, rubies, ornaments at that Sun temple those days. It is said that when Mohammad Gouri came in to loot that temple - the Sun temple had about 20 or 30 rooms full of huge boxes full of emeralds, gold, rubies, Ghouri had about 100s of elephants, camels and he loaded the “loot” on the back of these camels and elephants but still he could not completely take every thing from the temple. So much so that Sun temple used to glitter from miles away from MULTAN due the gold and rubies lying inside the temple. At that time the temple was so famous, much more famous than Haridwar, Puri or even Mecca these days.

I think the third temple you are talking about is Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag Kashmir. It was destroyed by Sikandar Butshikan. (But-shikan means destoyer of idols). Sikander Butshikan was known as the butcher of Kashmir and it was during his reign that Kashmir became Muslim majority. He gave three options to HIndus, convert, leave or pay Jazia. So slowly a large percentage of the population of Kashmir converted to Islam. Many were killed. Many left Kashmir. The temple's ruins are still there in Anantnag. When Al-Beruni came to India, he mentions in is memoirs that Varanasi and Kashmir are the two centres of Hindu knowledge.

Amazing love and attachment... I lives in Multan.. My grandfather family moved from india to Pakistan... Once i asked my grandfather to tell about his village in india... He had the same like feelings.. I would also like to comment on those people who looted these innocents during partation, they and thier families suffered a lot in terms of health(as they (most of them) became patients in early ages..)and finance, misery stayed at thier homes till their death... And they lost their lives in a very critical and restless way...Karma followed them for what had they done in Past.. MULTAN has changed a lot.. Although Muslim high school is still enlightening the hearts and minds of People... Is there any thing what i can do for the memories for such pure people will always be welcomed.. Regards
