Sunday afternoon a wildfire broke out at the Bluff City Materials Inc property, engulfing large mounds of mulch, dirt and debris. Elgin Fire Department Engine 3 initially responded before calling in additional support from Bartlett, Hanover Park and Hanover Township as the blaze continued to spread across the property. Fire personnel were on scene for multiple hours as the smoke continued to rise, visible for miles around. Elgin's 911 continued to receive many calls regarding the smoke.
