Mukaaku, Mabikke n’abalala bawera | Sanyuka Uganda Eyenkya
Members of Uganda's largest opposition political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), which was formed in 2020 by the DP Bloc and the Firebase crew, have split, citing prejudice, ineptitude, and the obstruction of the fight for regime change by a faction of party officials. The NUP has been split into multiple factions vying for influence and resources over the past few months due to increased tensions inside the party.
At a news conference on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the members of the DP bloc, led by former presidential contender Walter Lubega Mukaku and former Makindye East Member of Parliament Michael Mabikke, said that their collaboration with the Makerere-Kavule-based party was coming to an end. They observed that they were unable to completely carry out their intended strategy to bring about regime change in Uganda due to the dictatorial inclinations displayed by the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
