Great sketching pen, especially for outdoors. Its size is comparable to a pencil and the construction is strong but light. The knurled section ensures a good grip. On my Muji, reverse nib use for hatching and shading is smooth with no scratchiness at all. Thanks for the review David.

I "saw" G&R live once. They were one of the main headliners for a music festival I went to last year. The band before them finished, and then we got to sit and watch the same ~20 second animation loop for almost three hours waiting for them to take stage and by that point me and my family were only going to stay for a couple songs as we had been at the festival grounds for probably thirteen hours at that point and had an even bigger headliner coming up the next day that we wanted to get rest for.

I've had one of these for a while. I love writing with it even though it looks like it should feel too thin. I always write with it posted, because I love how long and skinny it is that way. Maybe it's a throwback to my childhood, sort of like having a nice new long pencil. I know I love how simple it is, almost architectural in its minimalist design, and how clever the engineering of the cap is -- a simple idea well executed. All told, a beautiful realization of the Muji philosophy.

Thanks for another interesting review. This pen deserves to be more widely known. I have had one in my rucksack, accompanying a note book, for ages. It is sturdy, writes dependably and is also aesthetically very pleasing (at least to me). One feature I also like is that you can have an international size cartridge in use and slide another spare cartridge inside the barrel, as a reserve. All in all, an excellent pen for daily use and carrying around.

I had a similar experience with a Levenger (Pelikan rebranded) slim pen. I used it for a couple weeks and then put it away since I didn't connect with it. Fast forward 15 years (!) and I decided to try it again. It's a fantastic writer - who knew! Still too slim for extended writing but one of the best nibs I own. Glad you rediscovered your Muji. Annnnd...nice matching cubes. Again!

Thank you for this review! I've seen ads for Muji fountain pens in subway ads in NYC and had wondered about them. I could tell they were Japanese made and figured there was no way I could afford them, so I never even bothered to investigate further. Seeing this, I think this would make a good starter pen for my young goddaughter. Thank you for circling back to highlight this pen you tucked away. Quarantining makes for appreciating what you have in so many small ways. You should do a Jitsu where people get to show the pen they've "found" in their collection during this time of social distancing together.

One major advantage is the fact that for younger kids they can easily change the cartridge without having to uncap the pen and thereby protect the nib. The barrel is too long to self pierce the new cartridge if you have a spare second cartridge in place but I just did a modification with a spacer in the bottom of the barrel so that all they have to do is screw in the barrel. I myself have three as I use red green and light blue in for notating documents and that rubber insert in the cap is convenient for a drop of my daughter's nail varnish to eliminate guessing. The ball pens and propelling pencil in the range are also fantastic.

Thanks for the review David. Even thought the industrial look isn’t really my thing, I’ve had this pen for a year and it’s grown on me as a good knockabout pen. It is a fairly thin pen, and I wished they had gone with a more consistent minimalistic look with the nib design (the scroll work seems to clash with the rest of the design). My nib was definitely a little too dry initially, with the tines too tight but is now prefect after adjustment (pulling back slightly on the wings). I actually think it does give a little line variation with pressure (can see it in your writing sample also). Would definitely recommend going to the store if you have the chance. This is their only fountain pen, but they have so much cool stationary...

I have one too which I picked up in Japan so it was quite inexpensive. It's a great pen that goes where the chunckies dont fit, but I never felt that confident in the strength of where the section connects to the barrel. But it's a great everyday pen.

GNR is known to make people wait. Slayer did something similar and would never play an encore. They would just walk off stage and people would keep cheering. After about 10 minutes the stage crew would walk on stage and start breaking down the set. I've seen Slayer twice and as far as I know they always do this.

I was actually going to mention this during the review. If you dip it too far down into ink, it is a bit of a pain to clean off the knurling. Only something wet will remove all the ink. I didn't find the ink to make its way into the crevice...at least that I noticed.

EH, you reviewed one of my pens! 😊. I have really enjoyed it. It's got a lot of feedback, so I probably need to smooth it out. I am actually going to Muji to buy another one of their notebooks, and they are fairly smooth, so the feedback feels awkward on that paper. And the capping and posting mechanisms aren't my favourite. My pen doesn't post properly, you have to really push it down. Other than that, it's very impressive.

If you are using a cartridge, make sure that it was actually pierced. And that you have pressed it all the way in. Then, store the pen nib-down for a few minutes. It the ink doesn't flow, you might want to gently squeeze the cartridge just a bit...not too hard...in order to get the ink flowing a bit.
