It's not only his boxing career that makes him the GOAT but mostly his it's his work outside of his profession that made him gain such a huge respect. Even the kings and queens and Presidents listened to him when he spoke

I never see an athlete being welcomed like this in other country or in any country except this man. Even today with technology, internet, and everything. No popular athelete is recognized the way he was. I never feel his popularity until my parent told me his story, but had I lived in those times, I would agree that he was the biggest and the most famous man on earth.

Muhammad Ali was quite prophetic that day in January 1978. He did in fact lose his next fight, against Leon Spinks, but 6 months later he beat Spinks, before retiring. Nice to see Ali in Britain again!

One of the biggest highlights of my life was being alive to witness this man's life and career. How well I remember him being disparaged by my adult relatives in the 60s after he changed his name and refused the draft. Even at my younger age I had listened to his reasons and thought, 'You know, he's got a valid point'. It took several years before people finally came around. Now he's a hero to be admired. When people refer to him as 'the greatest', they aren't just referring to his boxing.

That journalists that asked the silly questions , were just hoping that Ali slipped his tongue , claiming he was the greatest , and not the Queen. Well, that would be hell of stories on the front page of the next day news. But Ali was smart enough to smell that trap.

I will never forget I was 12 yrs old and we were standing at the roundabout on the John Reid road in South Shields and he came past in an open top bus and he leaned over and pointed at us and shouted " I Told you I would come"..

When Ali boxed we had no t. v In Srilanka, even radio was not with many. To listen to the fight commentary, we'd fight to get close. And generally swing punches too, and and sometimes hit one another. He was known in all corners of the island. His picture was every where. After every fight, new pictures were circulating. What an era. Never again Will the world see his likes again. We were lucky.

Tyrone : I was a big fan too. Some fights I heard on radio, but I was lucky enough to see most on television and some were actually shown as they happened, on Cinema screens. I'm sure I adored the champ as much as you all did ! Yes, those were great days, and we were very lucky to be alive then. Best wishes to you ! P.s.
