I agree, they should include a chapter on the Sikh Gurus. How Guru Teg Bahadur ji was beheaded in Chandni Chowk in Delhi by the Mughals when he stood up against forced conversions of Hindus. This was preceded by killing of three of his devotees by burning them, boiling them and by sawing them to death before beheading Guru Teg Bahadur unless he would accept Islam.

Guru Gobind Singh ji's two younger sons were 9 and 7 years of age when they were bricked alive because they did not accept Islam on orders from Aurangzeb. Of course before this they had killed his 2 older sons who were 18 and 14 years. This is how Mughals ruled India.

Yeah one can expunge or rationalize NCERT History books till Standard 10 but it should be comprehensive for Classes 11 & 12 students to get a better perspective. In this regard I find the old NCERTs before 2002 to be better.

To Barkha's question on how far back to go and north Indian may also be invaders - 1) Even if that were true that was over 5000 yrs back where evidence is bleak and the society has since been settled and in relative harmony and plural, 2) Mughals are recent invaders in civilization memory which committed worst atrocities, tried to erase this nation's culture and impose theirs. Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire in Medieval History textbooks have always been all ecompassing. It is better to introduce History of other parts/regions of the sub continent in Medieval History. I dont think Sultanate and Mughal Empire will be 'Obliterated' from the Textbooks. Just two bits. Firstly, 40% gentry consisting of Hindu Rajputs, Kayasthas and other Hindu communities. With due respect, I believe Lt Gen is exaggerating the proportion of Hindu gentry in Mughal Millitary and Administration apparatus. Hindu proportion never exceeded 20%. Instead, Mughals like Sultanate predecessors were more inclined to introducing Iranian, Central Asian and later Afghan immigrants in their Millitary and Administration. Even Indian Muslims of Hindu lineage, like Muslim Rajputs were not ALWAYS preferred. Mostly, Indian Muslims of Foreign lineage were preferred. Second, Medieval Hindu temple raiding never climaxed in desecration and destruction of the Temple Deity's Idol. Btw, even the 1998 7th Standard History Textbook said Mahmud raided India SEVENTEEN times. What were the so called Congress biased Left leaning NCERT bosses smoking in pre Vajpayee and pre Modi Era 😜🤣

Akbar & other Mughal rulers always had a balance of representation of Iranis,Turanis/Central Asians,Hindus & Indian Muslims in the nobility so that one group is not predominant & start calling the shots which happened later after Bahadur Shah I.

Of course Marathas were not given much important roles of Governor of Subas(Subedar) or Commander of Forts(Faujdar).

There is no means of arriving on that figure. My reference to Athar Ali's works was about one class of Mansabdars above the rank of 1000 Zat & above which was 31.6 percent. I haven't vouched for the rest of the participation of the Hindu community in the broad bureaucratic circle but mind you the revenue/civil bureaucracy was dominated by the Iranians & Hindus especially Kayasthas & Khatris. And there's no point in emphasizing on the preponderance of Iranis & Turanis in higher echelons of power(civil & military) to me when I have not contested that.

Migration is a naturally occurring event in human history. As social/religious/cultures evolve and merge and lines on land are drawn and redrawn no one particular group of people can stake claims or say one is superior to another just because who entered the room first. Each can be evaluated on the merits of their contribution to the advancement of civilization that is all. It is sheer stupidity of all the monkeys if they make a lot of noise and ruckus because they happen to be in the majority or they came first to the jungle.😂 Regarding Ambedkar and what he said about whom. I too can quote him but it is beyond hypocrisy to quote a man out of context and put words in his mouth. There is a context in which Ambedkar said about the muslims of that time and the man makes his context pretty clear in the title of his work "Pakistan or the Partition of India" and a excerpt from his particular writing "Pakistan: National frustration" that is being peddle here out of context.

Mughals are not worthy of the name and fame they have been given in the history books. In fact, most of the North Indian kings fall short in comparison to the South Indian kings, namely the cholas and the Vijaynagar empire. Even Marathas were more famous. They fought the third battle of Panipat and ruled Delhi for 100 years before losing out to British.

Indian empires must be classified into Indigenous Empires & Foreign Empires.... across the the entire timeline of known history. Mughal chapters need to be re-written. Delete the glorification.
