Mugabe snubs Mantashe’s criticism on Mandela’s legacy

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has lambasted ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe after he called on ZANUPF to ask its president to stop attacking the late former President Nelson Mandela. This week the ANC called on the veteran leader to refrain from attacking Madiba's legacy.

I am a South African and Mugabe is spot on about Mandela. Unyanisile!!!! We must all remember, Mugabe use to engage with the likes of Mandela, oliver Tambo and others. So, he knows what he is talking about and he was a student with themHe knows them very well more than Mantashe. If Mugabe feel like bashing Mandela, he is allowed to do so and he is talking about economical freedom at the end of the day not few connected individuals who has been turned to millionares while majority of the citizens are poor.Mantashe makangasiqheli!!!!

Madiba did not make stupid transformation decisions because he knew the importance of keeping his former enemies to circulate the industrial skills to millions of black South Africans. Mugabe was stubborn, irrationa and stupid in his country's economic transformation approach and he shoud have looked himself in the mirror and reflected had he was not a dictator. There are millions of Zimbabweans who reside in SA today and if his country was well resourceful and economically stable then why is this the case?

I remember the US and British governments at the time saying that they were reluctant to sanction Apartheid South Africa. Then later on they only sanctioned the delivery of weapons into South Africa. Their excuse was that sanctioning the Apartheid regime too harshly would cause massive unemployment in South Africa, negatively affecting the black population. Mandela was not perfect. Nor am I. Nor are you. Mugabe did say and do a lot of stuff to “critically think”, question and reject over. Especially in his last few years on earth. I don’t suggest anyone is perfect. I suggest thinking and analyzing everything and everyone on a case by case basis. I don’t believe in cancel cultural that requires us to indefinitely punish and cancel people for mistakes done in youth or way in the past. I believe in confess wrongs, apologizing for them, learning and evolving. That is all I ask of EVERYONE. Consider the TRUTH and adjust your behaviour or evolve based on the established TRUTH. So don’t let them make you do this SABC.

Mantashe I believe all those millionaires you are referring to are affiliated to your alliance (ANC), and you are one of them. We will not be mislead by you, we know what happened to Zimbabwe and it's not Mugabe's fault.

How does one even listen to a word coming from a man who has presided over a country for 37 years and at one point in 2008 inflation hit the rate of 231,000,000%. The currency had to be denominated in notes as large as the $100trn Zimbabwe-dollar bill-worth about around 40 cents at the time of its demise. Zimbabwe dollar was scrapped altogether in favour of a multi-currency system in which the American dollar was predominant. Economic chaos still continues. The only freedom Zimbabwe has had is Mugabe's freedom to plunder and destroy the country. It will take decades if ever for a president to undo the damage he has done. He is so filled with hatred it has impaired his judgement. For all of you who support him and yet still wallow in abject poverty you only have yourself to blame. A true president will unite all his people even racially. The biggest Zimbabwe inequality is the difference of just the amount of money his kids get to spend compared to what the masses can ever dream of having in life time, lets not even compare Grace shall we?

You guys want leaders who will rule with hate. Mandela was a great leader and remember South Africa gained independence late but we are doing better than other African countries who gained independence a long time ago. South Africans should stop complaining about the decisions made during the negotiations because they proved to be the best decision for our country.

Well being Zimbabwean I must DISAGREE with the prof on some facts: 2) Of the 3 or so million Zimbabweans in South Africa, a lot of them are highly skilled brains that have been head hunted from Zimbabwe and hold critical positions in the South African economy, as such they are hardly a burden, the next group of Zimbabweans in South Africa are Zimbabwean Students who pay a premium in school fees and help support South Africa's growing education industry, these too are hardly a burden, The third group are traders and tourists who mainly travel to South Africa for short stints at a time to spend on shopping and leisure, they too hardly represent a huge burden, the 4th group are migrant labourers that go to South Africa to do the jobs that most South Africans won't do, they work the farms receiving meagre incomes that make it possible for the food South Africans enjoy to reach shop shelves at the price it does, they too are hardly a burden. While all this is happening the 13 or so million Zimbabweans in Zimbabwe constitute the single largest market in Africa for South African goods and products at the expense of their own industry and commerce. When put on a scale the cost vs benefit of Zimbabweans in South Africa is hardly simple to answer .

Udakwa yikusutha uMugabe njengentwala. Mugabe needs to work on improving the quality of life for Zimbabweans and stop running his shrinking mouth on issues that have nothing to do with him. South Africans are mature enough to deal with their issues.

That's just freaking churlish, not to mention childish! Madiba committed many mistakes in his quest for peace. He fumbled on the economic, education and health agenda. Nothing was (and still is) more important for the former oppressed majority than those three items. Yet, people parade the few ANC connected black billionaires like they represent the entire black population in this country. Sies man, there's no maturity in sight here!

Kreef Kreefie In his response, Mugabe said Mantashe had reacted stupidly. Mugabe: I made this remark in regard to South Africa and what do they call him? Gwede Ma, stupidly reacted. Yes, they only fought to remove apartheid. This was it. We talked to them. I remember TG Silundika and myself talking to (Oliver) Tambo to say aah you are just fighting for the removal of apartheid not for independence and freedom as we were doing and they said independence was given to us by Britain in 1910 on May 31.
