Mashala I love listening to Mufti Menk he makes the deen so easy. This is a wonderful video and I hope every muslim listens to this and opens up there minds wallahi. In my culture if any dad goes out with there daughter to meet up with a guy intending to marry they will be the talk of the town and looked down upon! So sad :(

I used to have different criteria... that's the idea behind a full proper hijab. it forces men not to compare women by the size of their chest but rather by the size of their intellect. imagine a world where the smartest, kindest and knowledgeable girls gets all the attention. isn't it better than what going on ?

I'm from Pakistan too. If they don't understand even after the Imam's spoken to them, then Islam gives you the right to have the Imam in your Halal date (meet), instead of your parents. Even secretly, and Allah knows best.

I also had this problem too where I didn't talk much to my parents. But I think the first step to been more opening with them is to build a relationship where you by little talk to parents about how their day was and how yours were and then grow with that where the next day you can talk them about maybe what your teacher and someone said to u today and then this will help build a relationship where can talk about anything. But this takes time and the first step changes everything. I myself did not have a good relationship with my father and now we talk about everything and anything.N forget to Make duas . This was what I did, so maybe you can try it too

I hope I get married to a righteous man I am single in sha Allah i hope Allah swt gives this to me

I watched this Q&A from the beginning cause I want to learn and see how older people think of relationships. Wallahi in Nigeria lemme specify the yoruba parent have it in the culture to meet the spouse along the line. I can't walk up to my mum and say I like a guy because she pretty much say it as an insult when I do something wrong. And it is so hard on the youth here because the parents have your own life planned for you. They want to tell you when you start everything including when you start liking someone. May Allah guide us all we are so helpless against them wallahi because when you talk they make it look like you are being extreme with your islam and you just get confused and make many wrong decision at the end of the day

I grew up close to my mother and father. Any person that did not treat them right or would behave as if they wanted to pull me away from them, I would not be with. It's a good sign if you find someone who you sees treats their parents well and shows them the utmost respect. If they don't treat their own parents good, then how do you think they will treat you.

Halal “dating” in theory sounds like a way more functional form of courtship but it looks completely impossible to do in America. It’s really on the nose because it starts with the very assumption that you’re looking at someone as a potential spouse and the family is immediately involved. The couple can’t get physically intimate before marriage, which is so disconnected with the west I can barely fathom doing it.

I have just come across this today so it may be too late to get an answer , Why was the unseen person so rude because of time keeping ? He must be quite important as the poor young man with Mufti Ismail Menk looked really scared and uncomfortable even though there was " a vote " Well done young man , the work you are doing with other young people is admirable , this comment comes to you from an old Anglo / Irish grandma who became a revert over three years ago but although I am old I shall still subscribe because l have so much to learn . Your parents must be very proud of you .

It's interesting I can't relate to any of this and yet sadly it happens in so many families. My family didn't even ask once his ethnicity and race etc. All they wanted to know if the person I chose is a good person for me or not. Or maybe being Turkish went in his favor for me as a Pakistani haha.

My family and I are all Muslim and My sister dated her boyfriend before she married and those dates were not supervised by anyone then on the third date my sister brought him home and then she introduced him to us as her boyfriend and she said that the only approval that she cared about was my approval because she said that she doesn't care for our dads approval but only mine so she saw how I got along with him and how our mom got along with him and how. Our brother got along with him and how our grandpa got along with him then and only then did she continue to see him and down the road my dad started approving of him once he saw how happy my sister was a few years go by and she gets married to him and no it wasn't an arranged marriage it was a love marriage and to this day they are still together
