Just wanted to put it out there that there's another profession which one may not consider immediately cause pays less, and in secular society it may not seem that reputable like other professions but in Islam rewards and honour for it is immense. @@na9578 Now if you are talking about natural sciences then Imam Alghazali, Ibn Sina, Imam Ibn Taymiyaa, Ibn al haytham, Jabir ibn hayan etc everybody in the past could be both theologian and at the same time scientist(i.e polymath, medicine, philosophy, astronomy etc). it's relatively recent that chruch and state was separated so, natural science and theology was separated based on naturalistic worldview which conflicts with supernaturalism this maybe also affected the muslim world too. I know of dr Ali albar, dr muhammad dawdah, Dr Nidhal Gessoum, Dr Usama, Dr zamilur rahman, dr ashraful Alam( from my circle or area both doctor and still learning Islamic sciences ) etc some of them maybe modernist cause of western hegemony or environment they live. But in general Islam has 1500 years of intellectual history so, you will find people who were both well versed in Islamic scholarship and scientific knowledge. But Islam itself has it's own sciences and principles and it's own framework so , a Islamic scholar can also be called scienctist of Islam in that sense.
