Great job Dave! I like the additional camera, the audio and the picture in picture. Stepping up your game!

Thanks Greg. Not as sophisticated as your setup but I'm getting there. I found a great audio adapter for an iPhone called the iRig at a Guitar Center. It is designed to take an electric guitar output into an iPhone to record it. Best part is it handles the extra power of an airplane intercom system and strips it out (as well as electronics hum) so you get a cleaner audio signal. I use a free app (voicerecord) and when I start filming I just clap my hands so I get a visual and audible synchronization point for the video and audio signals in me editing software. Then it's simply a matter of putting the film together. Of course what I just described is probably something the typical 16 year old knows how to do in his/her sleep...but (like you) I'm an old dog learning new tricks!

Beautiful scenery out West! Of course you enjoy it more when not dealing with the problem we had....

Actually with the Mits you tend to stay just off centerline because the wheels/nose strut tend to bounce a lot on the centerline lights...

Your TAWS said 500' at 5 feet of the ground ?

+Marc Gautier Not sure where you get 5' off the ground from. The TAWS warning goes off at 4:39 in the video. The start of the runway is visible past the nose and the displaced threshold is 400' past that. Touched down just before the touchdown markings 1000' down the runway. Looking at the raw cockpit video footage, the TAWS went off with the altimeter about 250-275' above touchdown elevation. I record the audio on my iphone and then merge the audio and video tracks in making the video. It may be that the audio is not exactly synced with the video at that point or that the terrain prior to the runway (it is lower as there is a golf course and then a canal of water may have thrown it off...I'm not sure what the resolution is of the TAWS database). I can tell you that the TAWS has always worked fine and checked out correctly during the last maintenance check. Either way, the TAWS most certainly did not sound a 500' call 5' off the ground....more like 250-275' before touchdown on the runway... That said, glad you enjoyed the video!

+drklain Dave, I really enjoyed your video, the position of the cameras, great job ! I'm thinking to buy in the future a Solitaire. At 4:39 in the video in my KZread it's saying "5 hundred", maybe it just a problem with KZread matching the audio and the video, but at 04:39 your TAWS it's saying something, maybe I'm misunderstanding, because I'm sure that any TAWS would be making this kind of error please, don't worry about it. Thanks !

+Marc Gautier the MU-2s are all great planes with the Solitaire and Marquise representing the pinnacle of the plane's development. If you're interested in the MU-2, I'd recommend you check out mu-2aopa.com and consider joining the mailing list/forum. Great information there! Thanks for the positive feedback on the camera set up. I've been playing with it for a couple of years now...learning lots of lessons from former MU-2 owner and current Premier owner Greg Mink (+Premier 1 Driver on youtube). I currently have two go pros...one is mounted on the bulkhead behind and above the copilot seat to show the in-cockpit video. A second camera is on a mini-tripod on the glareshield to the right of the centerpost to show the external view. I use a device called an "iRig" to connect my iphone to the audio system via a headset jack to record the audio and then merge everything together using Adobe Premiere software. Not professional quality by any means, but I'm pretty happy with how things are coming out.
