these videos are so disappointing, instead of learning about the boats specs and engines we get ten minutes of corny music and the same scenes over and over

offcourse it's difficult for mercedes to say they put 2 merc(ury) racing 1350's in an MTI chassis and the boat actually doesn't have anything to do with mercedes

MTI is the manufacture of the Hull and the engines that they are using, it stands for Marine Technology inc. Sorry to say but the only thing about this that's a Merc is the logo and paint job...

Mercury Marine is owned by Brunswick Corp,not GM they convert motors from several manufactures into marine propulsion,they do build some outboards and all of their sterndrives in house.their racing division manufactures 1100 &1350 hp motors of their own design in house,the only thing GM is the bell housing pattern

I use one of these for water skiing.

Mercury Marine did build the LS1 that came in the vette.

MTI really know what the hell they're doing.

@BuzzDyou No it wouldn't. Glass water is sticky, holding the boat down instead of freeing it up to run. Engines are 1550hp Sterlings hooked up to Merc 6 drives.

believe it or not, the engines and outdrives are made by Mercury Marine's racing division, which is part of GM. So those engines are big block Chevrolets. and MTI made the boat, which is also an American company.

That boat that went 193 in the video is not a big block Chevy based engine but a new in-house designed and built 9litre V8 D.O.H.C.-not a pushrod valvetrain,twin turbos. I didn't know that GM owned Mercury,Now I know why they don't use Ford or Chrysler engines in the products they sell.

SquillyMon I know in 80's or 90's Lamborghini put some V12's in a Catamaran and it sounded pretty wicked. That you can find on youtube for sure.

Pegleg Noid No but it can probably do about 120 if they wanted to show it exceeding or pulling away from the helicopter. But really, whats your point? Who wants to see a boat going 190+ with a high speed chase camera? It would be much more dramatic to have the chopper simply hover at a high altitude and film the boat running at top speed...you know...to show the boat covering major "ground" in a hurry?

@sirop86 Race gas, horsepower and torque, pal, that's what it takes in a piston engine. Personally I would rather have turbines running those speeds. It's too easy to blow a piston motor at 7500-8000rpms it takes to run 200 and they're not cheap to replace.

GM doesn't own the same Mercury that Ford owns, as in like, Mercury Cougars and whatnot. Gm does own Mercury Marine. Mercury Racing is a division of that company. And you're right about the 1350 and 1100 twin turbos, and SCi motors not being Chevy motors. But they are GM motors.
