Hint: Your life total is a resource. Don't be afraid to go to a low life total. Winning at 1 life or 20 life doesn't make a difference.

I've been running a very similar deck in standard the last few months. Obviously, without dread presence or citadel this deck does not exist anymore and will move to historic. Out of the zendikar spoilers, I'm mostly interested in lotus cobra. I run track down and bond of flourishing, the cobra's extra mana would let me play stuff stuck in my hand while the deck goes off.

Much gentler then the one with Wild-growth walker but still, a monster of a deck

Couldn‘t agree more with the final sentence, that it is super satisfying and tons of fun to potentially play half your deck in one turn. Rarely craft decks I see somewhere else, but this might be one of them!

Wow this deck reminds me of the old explore deck

awesome gameplay, and very creative to go with Dread Presence and Bolas's Citadel as win conditions when most players would just use the ramp for a fast Ulamog or something

this is the deck I voted for an I am not disappointed

I loved the devil's experiment deck you showed in a video a little while back- so I will have to try this one too!

So I used to watch you during MTG2015. YT recommended me this video to watch and I have not got a clue what just happened in that gameplay. Holy shit there was so much going on

Congratulations on being the first person to find a way to make Aboreal Grazer a decent mid/late game card. They said it couldn't be done.

Love to see this variation instead of the Lands into Ulamog/Ugin. Really sick of some of the cards in Historic.

That's the issue with historic, it has the potential to have way more variety, but with the added variety it means that certain strategies that are usually good end up being OP. Bigger card pool = better options for efficiency and enabling niche strategies a bit better. Solution: make weird decks to counter the meta. I was running elemental ramp + Yarok + Thassa + Massacre Wurm a while back to beat up on Field of the Dead decks. If Ugin is a problem I would just run colorless artifact creature aggro, or instant speed removal like Murderous Rider.

Nice dude! I love dread presence so much, so it’s awesome to see people playing him. I ended up making a sultai citadel list in standard and historic that had him as a win-con as well. Some of the must fun I’ve had in MTG when it went off 😂

This is why I love historic I get to see janky combos that I can add to my weird commander decks. I have a deck that has every single play additional land permints and play top card of library. Adding more combos of life gain while playing lands can help a lot. Even more than the artifact that copy's your current life total and every time you play a land set your life to it.

26:58 Assuming you don't know the opponent next play, I would have killed one of the Pegasi so the other one needs a 2/1 ground chump attacker to actually enable the attack. In that case Dread Presence can eat a creature for free or, in the best scenario, opponent doesn't attack at all. Your play is right if you know for sure that the Veteran comes down next turn.

We all knew when the guy Nova'd your Citadel, the next turn he would FF.

I remember trying to brew with Scapeshift and Dread Presence when they were both in Standard. This just feels like a grindier, better verison of what I was cobbling together. Seems super fun

I've been using a similar deck in standard for quite a while now. I use void invader to put deathtouch on my dread presence to nuke creatures. If you want to mulch your opponent, that deck does it.

i have a similar version of this deck except I use Crucible of Worlds and The Gitrog Monster. Very fun to play!

That match against the goblins... The outcome was inevitably. What is one to do against a deck with such exceptional early game prowess, that can generate so much value for free as early as turn three? C^: The goblins really did not stand a chance.

I miss Growth Spiral in Standard. I just want to ramp on 2. ☹

8:31 Playing the Passage might be a mistake here. Given that you already have three additional lands you can play each turn and knowing you're drawing the Dread Presence you got two shots until the next turn (thanks to the Tome) to try and hit the Dryad of the Ilysian Grove and start triggering the Presence immediately. I know you wanna build up your mana base as soon as possibile but, really, I think playing the one land it's useless in this particular situation. My opinion, I could be awfully wrong of course :)

Great deck... but, alas, the Elf Tribal Deck was getting of fast. Was scary to watch that game. I dunno but, was there even time for a sweeper card like a four turn shatter the sky?

why not add a scute swarm to help with the sacrifice effect?

I found uro amd scheming symmetry to be very good cards in these sorta decks

Does the Asuza work the same way as exploration did, in words of wind enchantress if you bounced an exploration and play it again you would get a new land drop, if you play a new Asuza I suspect you could get 2 new land drops if you keep the new one, so maybe they aren't totally useless in multiples

Azusa, Lost but Seeking will add 2 to the number of lands you're allowed to play. This ability is a continuous effect, so casting another and sac'ing the old one won't add more to it."

@@LegenVD I definitely remember declaring which permanent my extra land drop was from but I looked it up that rule changed in M14, bummer "Under the old rules, you "used up" a specific effect's permission to play extra lands when you played them and could end up with additional land drop permissions if one source of extra land drops went away and another one came in. For example, prior to M14 you could play two lands with an Oracle of Mul Daya out, then Cloudshift the Oracle and play a third land after it came back in because it was a new source of an extra land play. Now you can't do that, because the total number of lands the current set of effects allows you to play never exceeds two at any given time."

It costs 5 mana (or 5 life with citadel). That's basically the only reason. Since you're not playing a whole lot ot GY shenangians you won't draw that many cards from it and otherwise it's just a worse/more expensive Oracle/dryade/azusa/swordtooth

At 16:40 could he of not just tapped the fabled passage for black mana, floated it, then sacrificed the passage to fetch a land and had 6 mana to play citadel ?

a deck like this with the new spell-lands would be nice, would allow you to still play a bunch of lands but get more payoff cards once you are satisfied with your land count edit: although those do enter tapped and aren't two colors so maybe not the most ideal. could be cool though

It’s really annoying that they brought elf tribal into Arena. 8 creatures on turn 3 with more to come is just unfun to be put against
