    My right spring broke at the end so I bent a new loop to hook it to the blade brake side. All good until I engaged the PTO. The added tension on the spring since it was a bit shorter caused the deck cable to break at the pin on the lever. A long day's work of maintenance/tune ended up in no mower. Good times! Parts are arriving soon. Thank you for this confirmation of where exactly that spring should hook to brake.

    Thx for the video. I have a 10 year old Yard Machine 700 series, 38" deck tractor and I've got way to much slack in my deck belt to the point where the blades will free-spin. I replaced the deck belt and my pto cable seems fine (unless these can stretch?) but still not getting the proper tension. Both outer springs apparently fell of at some point so I will be replacing them but they have to do with the brakes which keep the blades from spinning when not engaged rather than belt tension, correct? So which part is most crucial to proper belt tension? Thx

  • @Prblmslvd

    @Prblmslvd

    3 жыл бұрын

    Actually from what I have learned, belt tensioner comes from adjusting the deck from the rod / nut in the front of the tractor, at least that’s the way the 638rl works. Definitely consult your owners manual for proper procedure, you can usually find one online for free if you search long and hard enough. My manual had the exact process for adjusting the tension on the deck drive belt and if you look at how the belt wraps around the engine pulley which is stationary the only tension you have to play with is really the forward and backward movement of the deck itself. Check out my channel and there are a couple of deck belt replacement videos that may help. Good luck stay safe and always first consult with the owners manual before taking my advice or anyone else’s. I hope this helps.

    I have a problem with my mower it will go in reverse but not forward any advice

  • @Prblmslvd

    @Prblmslvd

    3 жыл бұрын

    I’m no expert I just solve them as they come but a quick search yields several possible issues... is it locked in reverse? It could be the trans axle gears the shift mechanism, tranny, etc. try searching online your exact symptoms and be very specific such as “lawn mover shifts into reverse but not forward” I’m sure you’ll find a post that leads you to a solution. If you can leave more specific information like model, whether it just happened or it happened after you changed something, etc. you may get more help. Good luck and looking forward to your reply.

    I having problems with the upper deck belt . I brought a new belt just is had too much slack in it. The dealer said it is the right belt for it

  • @Prblmslvd

    @Prblmslvd

    2 жыл бұрын

    First I would check the schematic for the exact routing of the belt, make sure you have it routed exactly as should be. It usually has some slack when the blades aren’t engaged. Some adjustment is made by adjusting the deck, check the owners manual and don’t change anything too much at once, small steps, but there’s a bolt on mine at the front of the mower which lifts and lowers the deck height but it also changes the adjustment of the belt. I’d search the part number of the belt you got to be sure also, usually the OEM belts are spot on if always go OEM on belts for these, I had a no name belt shear right off the first time mowing with it. The belt will normally stretch a little with use so if it’s flapping around that much brand new something would seam to be not routed exactly right, but that’s just an assumption and I’m no PRO, just know from maintaining my own. Make sure you didn’t forget anything or reinstall the bracket in the front by the pulley on the engine incorrectly. That’s about all I can think of, be careful and triple check before starting the mower again. Remember you can always “throw in the towel” and have a pro take care of it, if somethings doubtful enough. Good luck and thanks for watching, hope this helps, definitely use online searches for questionable items / diagrams, etc.
