This bike ride was not planned, but since the weather had cleared up after the morning rain and we didn't want to just sit at home on Sunday afternoon, we decided to do something easy off-road. Since we had heard about the opening of the 1.3 km route from Považský Chlmec to Žilina via the new cycle bridge at the end of September, and I knew from trips through Kotešová about the construction of a new cycle path, the choice was clear.
We unloaded our bikes in front of Kotešová (a part of Buková) and continued along the Kysucká Cycleway towards the Vážska Cycleway. During the transfer, we used the new cycle path (link to a separate video below) and connecting local roads. Then we continued along the Vážska Cycleway to the Hričovská Dam, where the motorway turns onto the main road. The path is asphalted, so there is nothing to be said about the route from this point of view. However, I personally got bored after leaving Kotešová, because on the left there is an embankment of the derivatory canal, on the right there are trees and bushes, through which a gravel pit or a field occasionally peeks out. This changed a bit after the path reached the top of the embankment - and the view of the surroundings improved.
We enjoyed the view of the Malá Fatra Mountains from the Hričovská Dam embankment and threw ourselves into road traffic - towards Divinka and Považský Chlmec. In Považský Chlmec, there is a marked turn-off to the cycle path to the bridge opposite the Secondary School of Fire Protection. This cycle path is also marked in red. The first section is along a local road to the Váh and then there is newly laid asphalt along the Váh to the bridge. The bridge is 180 meters long and is the longest cycle bridge in the Žilina region. WARNING - there is a shooting range in the immediate vicinity of the bridge.
Since we still had time, we continued further behind the bridge - first along the new cycle path to the railway (undergoing reconstruction) and the road bridge over the Váh, where the new cycle path joins the original yellow cycle path, which continues along the Váh to the Žilina Waterworks. Just before the waterworks, we were greeted by warning signs - there was some competition on the pond and hooks were flying over the cycle path when the bait was thrown.
We returned on the same route.
