Mt. Lassen National Park - Outside Beyond The Lens
A drive along the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway through Mt. Lassen National Park in northern California takes Jeff, Zack and David to hidden waterfalls, deep inside mysterious lava tubes and to breathtaking vistas near to the top of a dormant volcano.

EXCELLENT!! Thank you ☮
Spent several summers of my youth as a park rangers kid living in Lassen in the 60’s. Wonderful memories.
Thank you for making this video. I grew up in Chester/Lake Almanor and have lived in Illinois for the last 14 years. Miss the amazing beauty of Mt. Lassen and surrounding area and it was so good to be able to watch this and get a taste of home!
Beautiful, the Empathy of EARTH is the guide for Mankind. This thought came to me after watching your video.

How many people have gone missing from this park?
I was just their last week and hiked to Bumpass Hell for the first time. If you visit the park and don't visit Bumpass, well, you've missed a major feature of the park.
I've always loved the alpine Meadows of lassen.
I live in the area because I'm surrounded by beauty. Love the music.

Do people go missing in that park often?
A plug dome (like Lassen) is actually NOT the eroded core of a larger volcano. Rather, it is a complete volcano that forms when highly viscous lava is erupted to the surface. Since this lava is too viscous to flow, it piles up around the vent to form a steep sided volcanic edifice.

Well done! I enjoyed it so much! Thank you.. 😊
The most recent eruptive activity at Lassen Peak (California) took place in 1914-1917. This eruptive episode began on May 30, 1914, when a small phreatic eruption occurred at a new vent near the summit of the peak. More than 150 explosions of various sizes occurred during the following year.

Yep...we got this wrong. I was looking back at major eruptions and even though the 1914-17 events weren't considered that by most vulcanologists, they really were and I should have referred to these eruptions in the show. Thank you.
I didn't even know about this place. Thank you so much for the video and information.
We're headed to Lassen for the first time next month. Wonderful video, and now I'm even more excited!

Great video of an area I'm happy to live close to! We're fortunate to get to visit it several times a year!! We love it.
I visited Lassen and drove the scenic byway between there and Mt shasta, during summer of 2021. It was a great trip!
The beautiful forest has been almost entirely destroyed by the fire of 2021. I wouldn’t hike much of it due to hazards of falling limbs and burned trees, but it is still a breathtaking place to see.

That was really cool! I have never been there before and I am just in Eureka.

What a beautiful trip. I kow that I must go visit this place too. Thanks for the super photos.
Great job guys. Been there. Brought back great memories. Thanks.
Stunning views and amazing camera work! Thank you!
Living close to Mount Shasta all my life got me interested in this one to check out. Getting the info to plan my trip.
Wow!!! What a beautiful video!
It's become super crowded now, sadly...was there this summer and sitting in lines of cars on the road through the park at every possible landmark. Cars parked all over the sides of the road because parking lots were full, but it used to be an lesser known gem. Thankfully we were able to do some backcountry backpacking and that helped us remember the way it used to be. :)
Excellent video, thank you for posting on KZread.
Beautifully done
Great video!! This was so beautifully done. I also loved seeing the Stand By Me Bridge. I recognized it instantly.

Very nice. It reminds me of the days I was "courting" my wife. She's Norwegian, from Stryn, so a bit blase. But she loved the backside of the Sierras and Lassen area.
First time I came across one of your videos, and so glad I did. Great video of Lassen. I live in the valley and have spent a lot of time up near Lassen Park. Such a special place and not as overrun as most of the National Parks.

On my bucket list. I’m 68… Had any of this burned this year in all the fires 😢
I’ve been to Burney Falls before, but if I would’ve known that the “Stand by me” bridge was so close by I would’ve made the trip to go see it while I was there
The Volcanic Senic Byway is gorgeous, but you barely touched on the park itself. Bumpass Hell blows the Sulfur Works out of the water when it comes to geothermal features, and there's a huge area in the Eastern part of the park that is not accessible directly from HWY 89: Juniper Lake, the Devil's Kitchen, Boiling Springs Lake, the painted dunes, the cinder cone, Butte Lake and the Fantastic Lava Beds. Well worth another visit, I think.

When you travel the world becaome a much much larger place !
Hey, I grew up in Red Bluff, there are a few things I wanted to share. The Subway Cave, was once used as a hiding place for (I think Maidu) however I could be wrong about which tribe. Regardless, it was a tribe lol and they hid inside that cave for months to avoid being massacred by General Custer and his troops. He came to "extinguish" the natives from their land. But they were nowhere to be found. One of my favorite stories told to us by the Forestry guides on a high school field trip. I would imagine you could get details from The Lassen forest rangers. Also.... Mt Lassen last erupted in 1914- 1917. Blew the top off of Lassen and created Brokeoff Mountain. Loved the ice cave...that is a new one for me.. thanks much!

True Norcal!!!
Actually Lassen last erupted in 1921. It erupted violently in 1915. It is an amazing place to hike. You have to hike to Bumpass Hell bc that is truly another world. But perhaps fact check before you do another. Lassen is an incredible volcanic center and is VERY active, as is Medicine Lake. :/

Highway 89 does not go "all the way up and over ten thousand foot Lassen Peak" 21:51. Highway 89 goes over a shoulder of Lassen Peak. If you want to get to the top at 10,460 feet you will need to climb about 2000 feet of elevation on a two mile trail. Also, most of this video is not in Lassen Volcanic National Park.
any doubts that God made this? He has a very interesting imagination for His gifts, better than a landscape paint.

Last eruption of Mt. Lassen was in 1915!
Where was the trail that had obsidian?

So you travel just a little underground and it gets dramatically colder and yet we are meant to believe there is little a molten core powering Lassen itself? Makes sense... Or maybe we are just looking at a discarded spoil tip.

@@jeffaiello6646 We should be questioning these things. The deepest anyone has ever dug into the earth is two miles, so how do we know it has a molten core. The metals that they say make up the molten core are no longer ferrous once they reach a molten state, so how could they be creating a magnetic field? How do we know that there are lava tubes? Why are spoil tips undisguisable from volcanoes? They "erupt" in exactly the same way. One "erupted" in Ukraine not so long ago, but it is very difficult to find the footage of that now.

Sorry but Lassen last erupted from 1914-1917 NOT in the 1600’s. Thats basic knowledge to anyone who enters the park. Perhaps do your homework next time.
@jeffaiello6646

We did our homework but got stuck on technical terms. The 1914-17 event isn't widely considered a major eruption but after really diving into it, I think it was. You're right, we should have listed this differently.
couldn't watch, to dramatic, it's just a park
